Pet care experience

I grew up with Casey, Stella, and Romeo who were all Labs. I trained Stella while she was with us and I did manage to train Romeo some. Amongst the dogs we also had fish and frogs and typically we would do catch and release for anything we caught in a stream vs a fish store. My grandmother was involved with feline rescue association and so I also grew up around cats and even helped to rescued a stray and fed a few at my last apartment complex. I also volunteered at Mutt Mart for events that hosted adoption agencies such as the MD SPCA or Pitties and Purrs Rescue, Inc. Before my profile on here for Rover I have pet sat steadily for the same few people and figured I'd dive a little more into that. I've pet sat a parrot, some smaller birds, cats and on rare occasions dogs. When it comes to medication for animals I've crushed up medicine, while mixing it with their food and have injected insulin into an older cat's scruff of the neck before. Animals tend to get along with me and I pick up cues on when they need to be played with or need attention.

Monica has been pet sitting for me for 5 years now and she is the best! She is respectful, reliable, caring and detail oriented. She’s also a pleasant person to deal with. My cat needs meds twice a day and it is a relief to know my guy Rascal is being taken care of. Whether it be a long getaway or just a weekend trip, I can rely on Monica to take my place as “Mom” while I am away.

Monica has been caring for our 3 cats and one dog for several months, and through multiple trips. She has been great with communication. She genuinely cares about our pets. I can tell she engages with them when we are away, because their toys are often around. When we return from our trips, all the animals are calm and happy. If she has any question about any aspects of their care, she doesn’t hesitate to ask. You can trust that your pets will be well-cared-for when you hire Monica.

Safety, trust & environment

Prior to the date of commitment I would like to meet the owner to establish a trusting relationship and if we proceed to continue I then would like to meet the pets to see if we are a good fit. When it comes to the animals I like to play with their favorite toys so the animals are happy and can trust me more. If I take a dog on a walk I always give them a treat when we get back. I do tend to let cats sleep with me, however dogs are a different story. It really depends on the dog. I pay attention to social ques because some animals don't want to be touched while others need a lot of attention because of anxiety or over activeness. I do like to cuddle animals. When house sitting I do ask for the veterinarian's number and location, and please share any fun facts or particular items your pet loves or dislikes, including treats, toys, and were to and not to pet them. If there is a particular way you clean after your cat or another animal please let me know and I will adjust because everyone is different. With the permission of the owners I do sometimes post pictures or videos of the animals on my Instagram or TikTok where they get their day of fame. XD

Information Monica G. would like to know about your pet

I would need to know how active the animal is, whether it is animal, kid, and people friendly. If it is a dog I do need to make sure it is trained on a leash and does not run after cars. I would also need to know how well the dog listens to commands. In regards to any animal I sit, which can include birds, fish, cats, or dogs I would need to know what medications they take as well if they have any medical conditions or allergies.

A typical day

I play with their favorite toys, such as their stuffed squeaky toy or throwing a ball. I pet them and take them out in the backyard to play. I do take them on 20-25 minute walks with treats after they have completed the walk. I do try and make their walks a little different each day, but if there are neighbors with dogs outside I will walk on the other side of the road or just go another way so not to cause a confrontation.

A general day would consist of waking up, feeding the animals and either letting them out or taking them on a walk. I do have a part time 8 hour job on the weekends and another job as a reiki practitioner for 4 hours on Wednesdays. When I would get back home from my job the animals would be my primary focus. I enjoy playing with cats and throwing a dogs favorite toy. (If my schedule says unavailable it is because I have clients outside of Rover that I am seeing and in Sept-Oct I am working the Renaissance festival on the weekends. I also work two day time jobs. One is 8 hours and the other is 5 and they are not on the same days)
