Pet care experience

My dad bought me my own puppy when I was in 4th grade. We graduated at the top of our training class and it was all uphill from there. Many different foster dogs have passed through my house on their way to their permanent home since 2008, and I've helped rehabilitate them as needed. I trained agility and NoseWork classes for several years as well, so have plenty of professional experience helping owners and their dogs in a variety of settings. I am a Certified Canine NoseWork instructor and actively compete with Evie. She is also a Champion tricks dog. There's a room in my house dedicated to trick training and canine conditioning equipment that visiting dogs can try out. My dogs and I particularly excel at making shy or reserved dogs not only feel welcome here, but also come out of their shell. I will also make fun videos of the activities your dog and I do together, especially if they stay more than 1 night. The very first night is usually spent letting the visiting dog settle in, and get to know us.

Felt so great leaving our dog with Miranda. She was great with our dog and communication. We look forward to working with her in the future.

I cannot say enough good things about Miranda, she is passionate about dogs and extremely knowledgeable. This is evident in the way she cared for our dog during our week long trip. Since it was our first major trip away I was very nervous about leaving for this long, but Miranda made it easy to enjoy our vacation while our dog had her own! She’s very communicative with updates, photos, and videos and our puppy looked like she was having the time of her life in every one!

I work remotely, so will be home with visiting dogs mostly all day. I do go visit my horse, so some days your dog may be left alone for 2-3 hours. Otherwise, your dog will be hanging out with my 2 dogs and I. I have a good sized fenced in backyard they can run around in too. Dogs can be crated or night or left loose with us. If I leave the house to run errands, I do crate my visiting dogs with a kong (or owner provided chew toy), and dog relaxation music playing. My goal is to send owners 2-3 photo and/or video updates per day. I do have caged pet birds in my upstairs living space. They will be contained while visiting dogs are here, but if your dog has a super high prey drive where they are very persistent about trying to get into their cages, my house might not be the best fit.

Information Miranda B. would like to know about your pet

Please let me know if your dog has any special needs or food allergies. I have particular experience with dogs who are shy or reserved, so they are more than welcome here as long as they are friendly with other dogs. My dogs are great at getting shy dogs to come out of their shell, and are very polite. I can also administer oral medication to dogs as needed. The most important thing to me is that the dogs I host are friendly towards other dogs, since they will be in close contact with my 2 pet dogs. One of my dogs is tiny, only 11 lbs, so your dog will also have to be small dog friendly. Also, let me know if your dog is allowed on the furniture. I do allow dogs on the furniture, but don't want to send your dog home with any habits you don't want them to have!

A typical day

I am a Certified K9 NoseWork instructor, tricks enthusiast and walker. I like to play basic training games with my visiting dogs like touch and name games to start out with, and can also set up some scent work searches with boxes for extra enrichment. I can also play fetch games with your dog if they like those activities. My favorite place to walk in White Bear Lake is Hidden Hollow Park, and the pathway up to the city of White Bear Lake is pretty nice also. The neighborhood I live in is very walkable, and you can't go wrong with any of the routes near my block.

Since I work from home, I am with my dogs almost 24/7. They go outside as soon as we get up in the morning, at 11AM, 2PM and several times in the evening. We also go for walks almost daily. I have canine conditioning equipment and also practice scentwork and tricks with them. I am available to do any of these activities with a client's dog, or just hang out with them while the owner is away if the dog prefers to be a couch potato.
