Pet care experience
I’m Mikel. I wanted to become a pet sitter because caring for animals is my passion. Nothing brings me more joy than meeting new furry friends, looking after them, and getting to know their unique personalities! I love that dogs are always excited to see you – it just brightens my mood when I’m greeted by a happy pooch after a stressful day! My family has always owned canines. In addition, I’ve done some pet sitting and dog walking for friends and family. More recently, I began working as a professional dog walker. I also have experience handling large animals. I feel much less stressed when I'm around pups. There's just something about being in their presence that calms me down. I'm very excited to get my pet sitting business going. I don’t currently have a job and plan on pet sitting and walking full-time. I’m happy to report that my schedule is flexible and wide open for looking after your fur baby. I recently left my 9 to 5 gig to pursue my true passion which is working with animals.

Mikel has babysat my labs for the past 5 years. She is a natural with all breeds but is especially good with my energetic pups. She understands the needs of Hershey, my strong alpha male and Miley, my sweet but needy girl. Both dogs need vigorous exercise and Mikel wears them out with walks, fetching at the park and fetching and swimming at the beach or lake. My dogs love to swim and Mikel makes the effort to let them swim as often as possible. When I leave the dogs with Mikel I know they are safe. Mikel is super careful and cautious. She understands my pups and can anticipate and predict their reactions and their needs. She is very intuitive with animals and is a natural caretaker. The best part of having Mikel babysit my dogs is that I don't feel guilty. In fact, I feel good about them being with her because I know they are having a blast!

When I’m hired to watch a new pet, I always make sure the owner is at ease. I ask lots of great questions that help me meet all your dog’s needs and be the best sitter possible. The questions I like to ask include: - What is your pet's general disposition/temperament? - Has your pup ever become violent? - Do they get along well with other dogs? - Are they housebroken and trained in basic commands? - Does your pet have separation anxiety? - Have you hired a dog sitter or walker before?
A typical day
I like to ease into getting to know a new furry guest in order to build trust. I will first connect with a dog by giving them treats. Next, I’ll let them sniff me so they know I’m not a threat. Then I’ll start to be affectionate by petting a pooch and talking to them in a soothing voice. This lets them know I’m a friend. My neighborhood has plenty of great parks and places to walk the dogs I care for. During our time together, I’ll take your pet on walks or to a nearby park. I like to try to get away from busy sidewalks and connect with nature. I find that parks calm pups down and they seem to enjoy walking around on grass more than pavement. Forest trails are also a favorite of mine. I always keep owners updated while their pet is with me. I’ll send you detailed reports so you won’t have to worry!
