Pet care experience
I have been an animal lover all my life, so working with animals has been a dream job of mine. Because of this, I started my animal care giving career by volunteering with several of my local animal shelters; I spent years feeding, walking, watering and caring for dogs, worked multiple adoption events, moved on to doing adoption counseling as well as doing home checks to verify that animals were going to a safe home. I moved on from that to becoming a groomers apprentice for a year doing baths, nail trims, ear & teeth cleaning as well as expressing anal glands. Last, but not least, I've also worked for a couple of veterinary clinics doing things like drawing blood, observing animals and giving medications, (oral, topical, and shots included.)
Reviews
I DO NOT RECOMMEND MIKAYLA Not sure how she has so many good reviews, maybe they were all short term stays. But below is my essay, short summary I would never allow her around my dog again. Used Mikayla for a week long trip. I was hesitant to leave my dog there, because the house was an absolute mess. But I had to catch a flight and I didn’t have another choice. In the middle of my trip I received pictures of my dog and he had a wound on his nose, I mentioned it and they said it was nothing. When She dropped him off he was covered in week old mud. He looked like he spent all day outside and it’s JUNE. I get a closer look at him when I get inside, he has a bite mark on his right leg and the mud was glued on to his skin. He also chugged down water, seemed dehydrated. I took him to the vet, his skin around his nose was rubbed raw, because of the mud. And the bite was infected. I didn’t realized how swollen his leg was till the doctor showed me, he ended up getting antibiotics and it wrapped for a week. I would never use or recommend Mikayla, my dog is now scarred. He Refuses to go in a kennel now or be left alone outside, it’s really sad. He never had a problem with this before. Almost a year later now and he still has the same issues.
SHE IS AMAZING!!! I was so nervous the night before because this was my first time leaving my fur baby with anyone. As soon as we met all anxiety left my body. I felt okay and good with leaving him. My baby was so tired after we picked him up, and her puppy is so cute! I’m glad my baby & hers became friends. ? DEFINITELY WILL BE BOOKING AGAIN!
In short, I would not recommend Mikayla, and would not leave my dogs with her again. I was so angry, and felt so guilty for leaving them with her, I cried after we picked them up. If you'd like the details of my experience, you can read them below. I waited a little over a month to write this review because I didn't want my emotions about the whole situation to cloud my judgment. I also didn't want to give someone a less than pleasant review, but I have ultimately decided that as a dog parent, I would want to know if someone's care was not great, so here I am. I booked with Mikayla for the Thanksgiving holiday. She had TONS stellar reviews, and only a couple that were not great, or less than average. Maybe she does really well when she comes to your home to care for your pets, but I would not leave my dogs in her care again. First, her house is in a part of town that isn't great. But I looked passed that because houses are expensive these days and you can't blame someone for that. When we walked into her house to drop off our boys and their things, the house was dirty. And I don't mean like the floor needed to be swept or there was some clutter. I mean like my husband who isn't very clean himself, when we got back to the car said "I really don't feel comfortable leaving them here." I should've listened to him. The photos I received the day of drop-off were from her indoor security cameras, I didn't really think anything of it, was just thankful to get some photos. The next day there was no communication, but it was the Thanksgiving holiday so no big deal, I was with family anyways. I knew we would be picking our dogs up the following day, and had let Mikayla know at drop off that hotel checkout was 11 am so we'd likely be there shortly after that. The morning we were set to pick our dogs up, I messaged Mikayla on the Rover app around 11 am to let her know that we were loading up the car, and would be heading to her house to pick up our dogs within the next 30 minutes. We were staying 10-15 minutes away. I got no response. When we got in the car to head to her house, I let her know we were on the way. No response. When we got to her house I sent her a message to let her know we were there. No response. But my dogs were outside, in plain sight in her side yard, CAKED in mud. My poor frenchie was shivering because it was quite chilly and he seemed pretty scared to have been left out there. Not only that, frenchies are very high targets for theft, and the way my husband had to bang on the door for a solid 10 minutes before Mikayla finally came to the door in her pajamas, proved that someone could have walked into her yard and stolen my dog and she wouldn't have ever woke up. She also let me know that she has to switch dogs out from being kenneled, to being in the yard, and being outside, because she has a dog who doesn't get along with other dogs, or seems to be picky about the dogs that he does get along with. This was not disclosed at the time of booking and I would not have left my dogs there knowing that there's a dog with aggressive tendencies towards other dogs. In addition to all of that, I'm not sure if my dogs got into something while they were unsupervised for hours in her side yard, but I ended up with an emergency vet bill because both my frenchie and my boxer threw up ALL night long on Friday night when we got home. If you treat your dogs like they're you're children, I would seek care elsewhere.
The dogs seemed tired and happy I was updated with pics would definitely recommend!
