I am currently able to stay at home full time, so having an extra furry friend around wont be a problem. Most of my trips away from the house are to the gym and to run quick errands. We have a dog who went through a major surgery this year, which has given me a chance to brush up on my pet medical care skills. We love going for walks, trips to the dog park and snoozing on the couch. Leaving a beloved family member in the care of a stranger is always an anxiety inducing moment. I understand the importance of following the pet owners instructions. In her younger years, my pup was high maintenance, and I remember being so worried when I left her in the care of someone who wasn’t me. (She Is so picky! She must have the blinds up, has to have a Kong at a certain time, doesn’t like the crate, etc.) High maintenance or low maintenance I love them all the same. I have no problem Doling out medication, throwing the stick just one more time (or in some cases taking the stick away since it’s not a chew toy), filling a Kong with peanut butter or taking an extra walk around the block if that’s what it takes to get the job done. My husband has the same affection for animals that I do. While we like to have fun and are pretty easy-going, we are also mindful of the safety and comfort of all pets. We have no problem sequestering our pup to her own space in the house if the guest pet is stressed or needs a break from play time. In this house we teach our dog to be accommodating and generous. (It’s good practice for when we have kids.)
