I have had 6 dogs and 3 cats in the past 15 years and cared for each on my own in Houston. I have currently watched and cared for over 10 dogs and 1 cat since starting Rover in DC. I'm in shape, young, and am hyper aware of how heat can kill animals (I've seen family members' pets die bc of it). I've always had great relationships with dogs, but know to be careful/respectful not to provoke them. I'm happy and kind and I think dogs can relate to that. I've always treated animals as I would treat a small child because they deserve the same attention and care. I think its really important to understand that they can't always tell you what they want/need (food, water, bathroom break, etc.), so paying attention is key. At the end of the day, it's just nice to have an animal around!
