I'm a mom to two kiddos, two kitties, and one gentle giant canine. I grew up in a multi-dog, multi-cat household and have always had a huge heart for animals. My house is small but full of love! We have a large fenced backyard for outdoor play and pet potty-time, but otherwise our fur-family is strictly indoors. I currently work part-time hours in retail and have shared custody of the kiddos. I have reliable transportation and means of communication! With eight years of parenting 2-legged kids, 30 years of parenting 4-legged kids, 20 years of property and restaurant management, and a veterinary internship, I've seen and handled a lot. All three members of our fur-family were acquired thru rescue societies and are sterilized. Our feline members, Samson and Delilah, had also had their front claws removed. They are Domestic-Medium-Hair tabbies and couldn't care less about visiting pooches. Overtures for play are typically met with condescending looks of disdain, but occasionally accepted. Gunny, our canine member, is a lovable goofball mix of Great Dane and Hound for sure, possibly some Lab as well. He does get excited at the prospect of running and playing with friends, so I would have seperate outdoor time for any senior, physically handicapped, anxious, or easily agitated pups. My kiddos are 4 and 7 and accustomed to being around dogs with varying temperaments. Our dog is the size of a shetland pony, and as such, is not allowed on the furniture. He's been invited to snuggle on the bed but graciously declines, after all, that territory is ruled by those tyrannical tabbies! Visitors would be lovingly redirected off the new couch, but most likely welcomed to the bed, especially by the kiddos. And talked to, and walked, and basically fawned over.
