Medical K9 Handler / Animal Lover

Pet care experience

Hello! My name is Melody and I am a former collegiate volleyball player who has a Bachelors in Exercise Science and is currently pursuing a Doctors of Physical Therapy Degree. I got into a medical program that starts in June. I currently have a 2 year old large American Bully (Some of you may know of her as she is famous on Tiktok) and an expected medium-large American Village Dog puppy. My American Bully is currently a Medical K9 while the puppy is in training. Should I walk or care for your animal, my Medical K9 will stay home. Other animals that reside in my house include 3 cats, 2 turtles, 1 bird, fish, and a leopard gecko. For my pet sitting experiences, I’ve taken care of my extended family members and neighbors’ animals every time they’ve gone on vacation. As a really active girl, I do not mind walking dogs for a long duration of time if needed, especially if they’re large dogs who have high energy. For any animals needing medication, I would need specific directions on when to give your animal it’s medicine. I am very responsible when it comes to medicine and knowing when I have to be patient / careful due to my current studies in the health field.

Melody was an amazing walker for my dog! She followed all the directions I gave her and sent my updates! I knew Tobi was in good hands and he always looked forward to his walks/time with her. Definitely recommend her to anyone that wants a walker that truly cares.

Melody has taken care of my 3 dogs over the course of 3 years. My oldest is a 13 year old golden, second to oldest an 8 year old black lab, and finally a 3 year old Belgian Malinois x German Shepherd mix. Her job with my dogs included taking them out, feeding them, and even down to training our youngest. Like many shepherds or mals, our dog has severe anxiety, reactivity, and fright aggression. Melody is very responsible in knowing how to care for her even if that means advocating for the safety of other dogs and people. She has a lot of patience and has gone down to training our shepherd mix which has given me a better understanding towards my dog. Hands down, she’s great with dogs, all 3 of mine love her! She even has some pictures of them on her profile!

Very great with my leopard gecko and turtles. They looked healthy with clean terrariums. I also noticed she helped me do a water change although I didn’t ask. I had noticed the turtle filter medium was changed as well and had new activated carbon in it for the turtles. My leopard gecko’s ten gallon tank also looked very clean and I could tell he had been fed properly.

First time Rover app user. Chose Melody because of her profile and pictures, reviews, and her being close by. Melody assured me that my dog Toshi would be taken care of which was proven when I got home. Toshi was excited to see me but also content and happy. It was only 30 minutes but it seems Melody did a lot in that short visit. She even brought treats. Happy dog means happy mom. Will definitely call upon Melody again next time.

Safety, trust & environment

Through experience, I am very familiar with different types of training. This means per client I meet, I will understand if you prefer I walk your dog R+, Balanced, or LIMA depending on what tools the dog is wearing (collar, martingale, gentle leader, harness, prong). I also know how to correctly use the tools! Though I will not be training your personal dog rather pet sitting and walking, I will always look out for any stress or communication signs from your dog to make sure your furbaby is always comfortable.

Information Melody C. would like to know about your pet

I’d like to know certain traits I should be aware of whether that’s a lack of socialization, any sort of anxiety, medical needs, socialization status, does the dog have any ticks that set him / her off whether it’s the doorbell or any other sounds, limitations in the house (eg. couch, bed, etc), allergies to any sort of treats or food (I would love to talk to the client about treat rights, meaning I will ask if the dog / cat is allowed treats / show what kind of organic treats I have, etc). Finally, when it comes to breed preferences, I am opened to all breeds even if my client’s dog may potentially come off as aggressive looking or is reactive. Through my experience, I’ve trained a fair share of dogs; I will not be afraid if I have to put in a little extra work gaining trust with your dog. Large dog breeds are not hard for me to work with as I can relate to them by being an extra tall girl. (If your dog / cat needs very specific directions for me to know, optional forms are available from me if needed). ***Most of my clients pay off the app with cash, therefore they do not show up on my calendar. However, I do not mind using the app, either or would be fine.**

A typical day

I love providing mental stimulation and enrichment! It is up to the owner if they'd like me to take their dog to the park or simply walk in the neighborhood and stay home to hang out. Should your dog go in my car, he or she can borrow my Medical K9's XL Ruffland Crash Crate for safety! Car dog seatbelts are also available should your dog be on the smaller side. *An important thing to note is I will not be taking any dogs to an actual dog park as a way to avoid untrustworthy possibly aggressive or reactive dogs around yours! The "park" I mention refers to state parks, trails, fields, familiar areas the dog usually goes to*
