I love your dog like you do.

Pet care experience

I am ready to love your dog! (I am just rejoining Rover after a long time off of the app. So I don’t have the fancy medals and stars but I have the long term (15 years) experience- see reviews) My experience includes: —Plan, organize and execute adventure day camps for groups of 4-16 dogs --Volunteer at Animal Haven shelter Queens, NY --Volunteer dog walker at the ASPCA New York, NY --Dog handler at Biscuits and Bath Doggy Daycare, which at times required me to be in a room full of as many as 40 off-leash dogs and socialize with them --Attended course at School of Dog Pyschology in Arizona. The LEARN, PRACTICE, MASTER, BEGIN AGAIN seminar was taught by Linn Boyke. Linn was directly trained by Cesar Millan ("The Dog Whisperer") and helped to rehabilitate many of Cesar's dogs at the Dog Psychology Center. This was an introductory course about the relationship between your emotions and your dog's behavior. -Trained in Pet First Aid and CPR -Completed Intermountain Therapy Animals' Volunteer Team Training Course -Completed 6 week Therapy Dog course with New York Therapy Animals, Inc -After years of being a dog walker and sitter for all my friends, I decided to just work with dogs for a living. I love it. ***Most of my current dog walking/dog sitting clients are from personal referrals.

Melissa is truly the best dog sitter I've ever had! It was probably the first time I felt guilty coming back because I think my dog was having so much fun with her! Melissa is so wonderful with animals, extremely responsible and communicative - I felt so at ease having her watch my senior dog while I was away. Thank you Melissa!

Melissa took amazing care of both my indoor and outdoor cats for a week. She always plays with them and even brings cute toys. I love all the updates, photos, and videos!

An incredible boarder and dog handler all around. Melissa and her partner have a strong understanding of pack dynamics and behavior, and have been really intuitive with my high-energy shepherd mix. They are out all day going to parks and keeping them engaged. They’re extremely communicative, sending pictures and videos. I felt so confident leaving my pup with them while out of the country.

Honestly think Lou had a better 2 days with Melissa than his last two months at home. She and her partner took him everywhere, constantly sent photos and video updates, and had him socializing with tons of dogs. From pickup to drop-off she was communicative and on top of everything. Couldn’t give higher praise.

I live in a humble sized apartment in Bushwick. It has memory foam beds for them to rest between playtime and other doggy essentials (toys, basic grooming supplies, leashes, blankets). I have several memory foam dog beds and sadly some prefer to sleep on the floor!

Information Melissa R. would like to know about your pet

I prefer to meet your dog in person before booking so I can get a feel of their energy and they can become familiar with me and feel comfortable. I like to know a lot about your dog so I can provide the best care based on their specific needs and personality type. For safety precautions I would like to know some of these things about your dog (can be discussed when meeting or via message): Have they ever been away from you in the care of someone else? Do they interact well with other dogs? Do they have any physical limitations? Do they get excited and lunge at squirrels, children or fast moving objects like skateboards or cars? Does anything trigger them to be aggressive (toy/food possessive, too many dogs in their face, someone getting close to their owner, a certain part of them being touched? Does they have any throat/trachea problems that require a harness instead of a collar? Are they an escape artist (have they escaped before or tried to run away)? Do they have separation anxiety?

A typical day

**If your dog shows signs of aggression, prefers not to socialize, or has a limitation that causes them to feel overwhelmed around other dogs, please let me know. Based on our discussion before booking we can always see what works best. I sometimes take drives to any place that gets their nose excited to go on walks. Just know that your dog will come back tired and you will get a cute photo for sure. While every dog has physical needs (walks, running, jumping, eating your shoes) they also have psychological and social needs. I like to practice activities that are simple but require them to focus. For example I might make them sit and wait before walking out the door to teach them patience. This is good for challenging the mind and making your dog feel purposeful! Socializing is important because dogs teach each other more than any human can teach them.
