21+ yrs experience!

Pet care experience

I put on an addition in my current home to be able to board dogs. There is a private entrance through the garage directly to the room, also a private exit directly in to the fenced yard. My dogs do not interact with boarding dogs. I also do dog walking and drop ins! In order to board at my home, dogs MUST be people friendly and up-to-date on vaccines (distemper, rabies, bordatella). Special circumstances (medical reasons) will be taken in to consideration, but will need to be validated by a vet reference. Dogs do not need to be dog-friendly. I only take one family's dogs at a time and like I mentioned above, my dogs do not interact or even see the dogs boarding at my home. Please email me for more details and ask any questions! About this sitter: My name is Melissa and I am the founder of Bella-Reed Pit Bull Rescue - search us on Facebook! Not only did I create BRPBR, but I also have owned pit bulls since 2005, fostered over 70 dogs in my home, and am a strong advocate for the breed. I have worked in the veterinary field previous to rescue and have cared for many medical cases. I know how important it can be for a dog to remain in a home environment while his/her owners are away, hence why I am a strong advocate for pet-sitting (especially since some boarding facilities unfortunately do not accept certain breeds). I have been dog-sitting for approximately 21 years for neighbors, family, friends, the rescue, and through word-of-mouth. Prior to that, I worked at a veterinary hospital for 4 years. I work from home so dogs are not often left alone! Why I love dog sitting: I have owned dogs my entire life from birth til present. I grew up with Laborador Retrievers and have owned pit bulls since 2005. I am a strong advocate for the bully breed and currently run my own pit bull rescue. Bella-Reed Pit Bull Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit pit bull rescue organization located in Southeastern, Pennsylvania. We are a small network of hardworking volunteers and foster homes dedicated to advocating for the most misunderstood breed in the world: The American Pit Bull Terrier. We are completely devoted to the positive promotion of the pit bull. While we work strictly out of the Philadelphia and NJ areas, we network with rescue groups and other informative groups all over the world. We do not have a brick and mortar location for people to visit, AKA a kennel or a shelter. We rely solely on our foster homes to provide the love and care our dogs need until they find their forever home. Meet my pets: 5 pit bulls: Bella Blue, McCready AKA Reed (male, neutered), Hershey (male, neutered), Pesto (male, neutered), Nova Layne (male, neutered). 2 parrots: Red Throat Conure named Flapper and an African Grey named Pilate (pronounced Pilot). My experience administering medication: Pills, Chewables, Injections, Fluids, Topicals, Eye drops, etc. Any and all.

Melissa did such a great job with our girls! We were unsure about how our pittie would do this first time boarding her a ince she is a rescue and is very skittish. Melissa kept us updated with photos and videos of our pups having a blast. Would definitely recommend!

I’ve known Melissa for several years now. She is a knowledgeable dog owner with extensive experience working with senior dogs, special needs dogs, and dogs with training needs. She is one of the very few people I would trust my two pit bulls (and all of their quirks) with. I know that she will always care for my dogs as I would, if not better.

Melissa boarded our dog for us when we went on vacation (she’s also the one we adopted our dog from). We received regular updates as to how our Daisy was doing. We received pictures while we were away as well. Leaving our Daisy while we were on vacation was hard for us, but we felt like we were leaving her with family. She certainly was treated as family by Melissa. I can think of no one better to board our dog with. We can’t say enough good things about Melissa.

Melissa has watches our American Bulldog when we go away and he LOVES her. I think he's sadder that she leaves at the end than he is happy that we're home. She's very reliable, takes great care of him, and sends us updates. And it's great to know that we can really trust the person staying in our home.

Information Melissa M. would like to know about your pet

Things I would need to know about your dog: 1) Any aggression/guarding issues? (food, toy, human, etc) 2) Any unusual behaviors I should know about before meeting your dog? 3) How would you like me to greet your dog upon meeting him/her? (ignore until calm or say hello). 4) Crate trained? Breed preferences: All Bully Breeds! Pit Bull, AmStaff, Bull Terrier, American Bulldog, English Bulldog and any mix of the bully breeds. Will absolutely help with other breeds too, I just specialize in these. I have boarded everything from pitties to dobermans to puggles!
