Pet care experience
I am a certified veterinary technician in Illinois. I have been in veterinary medicine for going on 10 years. Just over 6 of which have been spent in emergency medicine. I have grown up with pets of all kinds. Cats and dogs being my favorite! I currently have a 2 year old bulldog/ terrier mutt who loves to run, play, and will do anything for treats. We are graciously allowed to share residence with 2 handsome cats. I also home a 10 year old bearded dragon, a crested gecko, 2 Russian tortoises and a 2yr old hooded rat! I love to take the time to get to know any pet in my care whether at the clinic or as a sitting client. I believe that engaging with each pet on their level and with what they want to do brings them happiness and helps create a bond between us.

Hi - I wanted to take the time to tell you about Melissa. She's a friend of the family and we have known her for a long time. Whatever Melissa pursues in life, she does so with a true commitment and devotion. The animal world is lucky that she has chosen this path in life! She has a passion for the care and humane treatment of animals and has been taking care of our dogs for a long time. She is reliable, trustworthy and attentive and our dogs love her as much as we do. Along with our happy go-lucky Yellow Lab, we have a "prickly" Min Pin that can be a little difficult at times, but not with Melissa. It's stressful to go away and leave our dogs, but we know they are in good hands with Melissa, and that puts us all at ease.
Melissa is a certified veterinary technician that I've worked with for over 2 years. She is extremely competent and caring! I would trust her without a doubt to care for my own animals as I know she would treat them as her own!
I've known Melissa for over 7 years. She's very responsible and her love of all animals is incredible. She's a certified veterinary technician working for an emergency veterinary hospital. She not only respects animals, she treats all as if they were personally her own. Always with the utmost care and compassion. Being a certified vet tech, she's also quite capable of handling any emergencies that might arise with animals. Melissa has watched my lab mix several times and visited my home while I was on shift as a firefighter to give my lab bathroom and play breaks as well as feed him and make sure he was never without fresh water. I would never have a problem trusting Melissa to watch, walk, or feed my dog. She's extremely trustworthy and honest.
I have had the pleasure of working with Melissa for 3 years (and counting) at an Emergency Veterinary clinic, I have also become friends with her outside of work. She is extremely kind, caring and patient when it comes to pets and their owners. I have no doubts that once the word spreads about her availability as a pet sitter that her schedule will be booked fast! I would most certainly turn to her for the care of my own fur babies when the need arises. She is a certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) and upholds the standards that comes with the profession, being trained in emergency and medical care, what better person to provide love and attention to your four legged family members. I know she will become as cherished of an asset to local pet parents as she has become to our clinic.

I have a fenced in yard and a spare room that will be set up for your pet if boarding. I try to practice patient care/ pet care like I would in a medical setting. I take great care to make sure your pet is in a safe environment.

A typical day
I believe in encouraging dogs to explore their instinctual type of play. Not all dogs like to play the same way. I like to get to know a dog and help them to express themselves in a way that they are most comfortable. Depending on how well behaved, I would be more than happy to take your pet on trail walks. I would walk their normal paths if that it preferred. The same applies for cats too! :)
