A Biologist Home F/T; 1 Dog Focus

Pet care experience

I live with my husband in a spacious 2bed/2bath apartment in a gated complex in the the pet-positive neighborhood of Golden Hill. I’ve lived with, worked with, and taken care of many different breeds of dogs throughout my entire life. I’m loving, sensitive, observant, calm, patient, protective and outdoorsy, so I will devote 100% of my time and attention to your pet’s needs. I offer a high level of care by providing one-on-one pet sitting services for your canine or feline family member(s) while you are away. There are no other pets or children in my home, and I will only take pets from one client at a time, so you can rest easy knowing that your pet is being taken care of in a safe, nurturing environment with 24/7 attention. I’m a seasonally-employed Wildlife Biologist, where I survey for rare & endangered species on forestlands in Northern California for 6 months out of the year (March-September). The other half of the year I’m at home in San Diego full-time, 100% available and dedicated to providing quality, one-on-one care for your fur babies! I believe my personal and professional backgrounds afford a uniquely qualified approach and understanding to each individual’s needs. I love taking multiple walks per day—Balboa Park and Golden Hill Park are a few blocks away from my front door, so there’s plenty of physical and emotional exercise opportunities. I’m just as happy spending a low-key afternoon cuddled up on the couch for those in need of a safe, quiet refuge. I will treat your dog or cat like my own, with respect and love. I have extensive knowledge and experience in dog care including: full time care for elderly dogs, puppies, special needs dogs (I.e. abandonment, neglect, abuse, fearful issues), I’ve worked with emotional support and service dogs, I can administer liquid and dry medications, I have training in first aid and my husband is qualified and training military dog CPR/First Aid and handling techniques. I have tubs for grooming, plenty of creature comforts (bedding, toys, treats, leash, crate), and I’m always happy to accommodate dietary preferences for each individuals needs. I am happy to meet beforehand for a meet-and-greet, and I will provide frequent updates throughout the day in the form of texts, quality photos, Rover cards, and phone calls. I understand the anxiety of leaving your dog/cat with a stranger, as well as the separation anxiety of the dogs/cats, so please, don’t ever hesitate to contact me!

Meghan was incredible in taking care of our dog! This was the first time we’d ever left Nomad with someone before, but Meghan eased our concerns immediately with her patience and attentiveness. She sent lots of updates with pictures and our pup came home happy! Highly recommend!!

Information Meghan M. would like to know about your pet

Will your pet be able to climb up one flight of stairs, or will be willing for me to carry her/him up to my second story apartment? I have a small carrier, and I can lift up to approximately 50lbs, but please consider speaking with me first if we need to set up something special. I would like to be aware of any medical care and their schedules beforehand, so their stay is locked into their routine. I would like to know their daily/nightly bathroom routines, their mealtime routine (preferred schedule, serving sizes, food preferences and any allergies, etc.), so I can best serve them and you by extension. I would like to know their temperament with other dogs/people when encountering them briefly on walks. Any details you see fit to share with me are very much appreciated. I will make the necessary accommodations to the very best of my abilities. I adore every breed I’ve met. My experience is with Australian Shepherds (mini-aussies, too!), cattle-dogs, Labradors, Chihuahuas, Shelties, Maltese, Boston Terriers, Border Collies, Weimaraners, and Poodles but I absolutely love all dogs, from bulldogs to bloodhounds, to all mixed and specialty breeds, and all of those in between. It’s an honor and a privilege to be given the opportunity to become your dog’s friend and caregiver. Feel free to contact me whenever you’re in need, and I’ll work my best dog-whisperer magic.

A typical day

I love walks up to Golden Hill Park, Balboa Park, birdwatching for slower paced canines, hiking trails and beaches where dogs are allowed, throwing the tennis ball for hours, playing tug-of-war, and if the dog likes dog parks, I will gladly take her/him to one. I will take your dog on at least 4 walks per day, varying in distance and frequency depending on your specific needs. For cats, I have plenty of toys, a scratching post, harness and leash, a carrier, litter box, and canned food available.
