I'm a stay at home mom, and already have a puppy of my own who LOVES company and my 3 year old son LOVES dogs as well, we do live in a large sized apartment, but our community does have a dog park. It is recommended that you bring your own crate but usually my dog is allowed free range of the house at night and sleeps with me I my room on her dog bed on the floor. It will be best if your dog is already leash trained as I am 2 months pregnant so leash pulling isn't good for me, but I am use to it as my dog is not leash trained AT ALL! I do require a meet and greet to assure that your dog will get along with mine.
