S.P.C.A Alumni Caregiver At Ready!

Pet care experience

***Clarification about my sitting rates for dogs - The daily rate includes all walks needed for the requested time and overnight stay in client's home. *** ***I provide continuous care (not leaving the home) for dogs with separation anxiety issues but on a first come first served basis depending on if I have other visits scheduled in that time window. It will be an hourly rate of $30.00 for day care (your house call, I cannot provide dog daycare in my home) and if it is for sitting, we can negotiate a rate. Rover does not currently have an option to request this service from the menu but if you reach out to me via drop in or house sitting and specify continuous care, I can adjust the rate from there.*** ***I have full and flexible availability for a range of pet care needs, including dog walking, house sitting, cat care, and care for exotics (ferrets, bunnies, turtles, fish, anything legal and reasonable!). Unfortunately, I can only provide feline and/or small (non-canine) pet boarding services at this time. Happy to follow any special instructions or requests regarding safety and sanitation.*** Hello, I'm Megan 👋! Whether your family member has fur or scales or green leaves, they have a dear friend in me! I have four years of professional experience caring for both dogs and cats at a large non-profit humane society (The Richmond SPCA), plus one year of experience as a volunteer. I also have expertise with ferrets, having owned (or should I say "been owned by?" 🤔) five of them - Roscoe, PJ, Stella, Willoughby, and Jean-Jacques - and being involved with The Richmond Ferret Rescue League in Richmond, Virginia. When I transitioned into a career in live theatre production, I was handed the rare opportunity to supervise a rotating cast of baby bunnies for Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol," hosting them in my home. I am also the kind of person who is likely to be caught on camera having conversations with aquarium fish 😃. I have been providing Rover services officially since December of 2019 and for two years prior to that was an on-demand dog walker for Wag! I have been a resident of the quiet and leafy Brookland-CUA neighborhood of Washington, DC for several years now since moving from Richmond, and I definitely call DC my home. I service areas of DC and also Maryland within a radius of about 3-4 miles max from Catholic University. You can expect me to go above and beyond to the best of my ability every single time for all of your pet care needs, particularly in the following categories - Communication, Listening, Consistently On Time or Early, Attention to Detail, Pet Safety, Patience, and Sensitivity. I am a "bone"-afied animal lover and rest assured that all of your pets will be treated with love and care and human owners will know that their animals are loved and being cared for daily! When I'm not providing excellent care for the animal community of Washington, DC, you can find me backstage at many of Washington's top theatre companies painting scenery! 🌈 🖌 *Update to this: I am now a full time Rover sitter!* I care for all pets in the exact way that I would want my own pets cared for! I am always available via Rover chat, I send thorough updates with pictures, I attend to all the needs of the pet regarding food and fresh water and cleanliness and medication. I respect my clients' homes, which means never inviting guests to my drop ins or sittings, keeping the home clean, and only entering areas where I am authorized to enter.

I asked my kitty to say “meow” if he loves Megan, and he said, “MEOW!”

If you are choosing to board out of your home, be advised that I can only accept cats and small pets such as rabbits, hamsters, etc. I live in a spacious and clean basement unit with plenty of windows that has no plants that are toxic to cats. I provide overnight sitting in a client's home as well. This includes all walks for dogs, feeding, medications if needed, and sleeping in your home. Be advised that continuous care for dogs with separation anxiety will be an hourly rate of $25, please reach out using the house sitting option and specify how many hours needed and I will adjust the rate if I happen to be available for continuous care that day.

Information Megan S. would like to know about your pet

I want to know your pet's favorite places to go in the city, any triggers they may have, any special notes like whether a fast exercise walk or a slow, leisurely stroll would be best, their quirks, and what kind of treats they like!

A typical day

Anywhere with grass and trees are preferred for my walks, and if it's allowed then I would be more than happy to take your dog to the dog park with a toy or two. For senior or otherwise special needs dogs (or ANY pet, really), they'd be treated to a nice TLC session with plenty of massage and belly rubs.

Availability

I have gone from being a part-time sitter to having a full-time career as a sitter, which means that my availability has expanded and unless I am marked off on my schedule, I am usually able to be available with at least a day's notice (or same day if you are lucky). With dogs I do require a meet and greet beforehand, so 2 days notice would be optimal in the case of new bookings. Meet and greets are optional but offered for cats and other small pets.
