I've had plenty of dogs growing up usually lab mixes, bigger dog type and never had any issues gaining a dogs trust. I currently have a black lab/whippet mix who's name is Zora, she is my favorite thing in the world. Dogs are very intelligent animals and should be treated exactly like "Man's best friend". I usually talk low and slow but firmly and that does the trick. Even the forever-puppy has a hard time disobeying a direct order when I look right at him and speak in such a voice. I am mainly offering pet sitting in the home and 30-minute walks. I have less experience with cats. The ones I am familiar with have basically been raised by dogs I.e don't reflect normal cats.
