A Purrfect Pawrtnership:Dog Walking
Pet care experience
After taking care of my neighbors’ dogs for a decade, I finally got to live out my dream when my parents separated and my dad let my brother and I get a puppy. My lil Beagle “puppy”, Hope, is nowadays an old girl who lives in a house of 7 dogs shared between my stepmom and stepbrothers. Despite the rest not being “mine”, I treat them and care for them as if they were my own responsibility. A few years after I got Hope, I founded my own NYS certified, local Dog Walking & Pet Sitting business named B&M’s Dog Walking & Pet Sitting Services in 2015. I developed an accompanying business website, created social media pages, and advtertised my services through a variety of sources and despite the fact that I was only 16 at the time, I knew it’d be worth it having a job I was passionate about. Equally as important, I recognized the win-win situation this job created- it’d be as rewarding to me as it would be for the pets I was providing care for. I marked down my services prices to be more than reasonable and offered a variety of different pet services including dog walks, Group walks, drop-ins, pet sitting at the customers’ house, and was open to any requested services (i.e. grooming, training, etc.). On top of that experience, I have 3 years of experience as a kennel worker.
Reviews
Megan is a person who truly loves animals, especially dogs. She looks forward to playing with them, brushing them and making sure they have food and water. It makes her happy to be with them and in my experience, they love her right back. She has done an awesome job watching my animals and she would be an asset to Rover. com as a dog sitter.

For dog walking, I make a point in getting to know the pets and owners themselves before diving into a list of questions I run through with every new furry friend to be sure I’m not missing anything and offering the best care possible. I treat others houses with the same respect I’d treat my own, and never jeopardize the safety of their fur baby or other assets. I don’t offer my services at my own home, for a multitude of reasons; however, I was wholly comfortable house sitting for customers as I pet sit for them while they were away. Before I ever agree to take care of someone’s pet whilst living in their home, I interview the owners (in-person) and pets in their own environment to get a better understanding of what kind of pet they have, what exactly they’re looking for while they’re away, and then go through my lengthy list of questions (I.e pets favorite toys, do they take any medicine, what are they allowed to lay on, etc). After that initial meeting, I’ll try to see them one more time before the sitting and focus on familiarizing myself with their dog and having them get accustomed to my presence.
Information Megan B. would like to know about your pet
Is it aggressive towards new people or other dogs? How do the owners handle when their dog misbehaves? Do they have any medical issues and if so, do they take medicine for it? What’s their favorite toy and treat? How do you get them to come/listen? Whats the vet’s contact information? What can they be particularly difficult about? Would you be comfortable if I brought your dog in my car (buckled in a doggy harness strapped to seat buckle/headrest) to transport them to a secluded area, park, or other sight if things are too far away to get to on foot? What rules do the owners give their pets? Are they leash trained? Are they trained (listens to commands)? Where and when do owners typically take the pets for a walk? How much food and what kind of food does the pet eat? Does your dog listen well and could they behave in a dog park?
A typical day
Aside from just getting your pooch up and out of the house, I wanna make ensure that they get the most out of the walk and return home exhausted. For starters, I try to keep the walks new and interesting for the pooches, offering new smells and sights for them every walk. Whether we go to a dog park, small park park, trails, waterside, around the area, or other well recognized local areas safe to walk. Additionally, I bring some toys along to throw around if permitted and let them carry it. If the dog enjoys other dogs, I like to allow passerby dogs to introduce themselves and play, if permitted. If they want to find a stick for 5 minutes that’s fine by me too. I’ll pretty much permit anything THAY doesn’t cause potential harm to the dog or others and is OKAY’d by the owners. It’s their world, we’re just living in it.
