20 Years of Professional Pet Care

Pet care experience

Hello pet parents, my name is Megan. I have been caring for and working with dogs and cats since 2005. I have spent over a 13 years as a dog handler. Being responsible for a large group of dogs on a daily basis was extremely useful in teaching me how to remain calm during bouts of total canine chaos. Many years have been spent learning dog body language first-hand and observing canine behaviors in a variety of situations. Be proactive. Practice keeping calm. Try to make your best and safest decision ASAP if an animal is in distress. Or, isn't in distress and just needs some extra fun attention, or even a nice, quiet private area to nap in. I also have about 3+ experience in a veterinary setting, and the past 3 years I've owned my pet care business "Portland Pugaholics". I encourage pet parents who have animals that are on the older side of life, have any special needs, separation anxiety, PTSD, or any behavioral quirks to contact me if they are looking for an experienced and trusted pet sitter that is familiar with these types of behaviors and who can work with their animals and help them feel as comfortable as possible while their humans are away. Pet care is my career with two decades in the making. I feel very fortunate for this! When dog sitting I never, ever let any dog off their leash. Not even for dog park visits. This is because I am not you. I'm not their person. Your dog could just completely book it down the street in an attempt to go find you. This has never personally happened to me, and that's because I believe it's wise to think about every possible outcome before taking action that has any possibility for future regret for something that could have easily been avoided. Also, I'm not a big fan of letting your dog greet other dogs while walking. 10 times out of 10, it's not your dog I'm worried about. It's the other dog. So for your dogs safety, we will politely decline. I also don't leave any dogs in the backyard unattended.

Just an outstanding experience all the way around. Loving and caring professional who knows her job and provided great recommendations to work on some of my puppies socialization skills. Thank you!

I first met Megan through the Rover app. We set up an initial meeting to see if she would be a good fit with our dog. Since then, Megan has pet sat for my German Shepard mix Wyatt several times. Wyatt is a nervous dog, a little reactive and slow to trust people. Megan knew exactly how to make Wyatt feel comfortable and they are now basically best friends! Megan was also able to implement Wyatt's reactivity training program during walks and around the house. In addition to taking great care of Wyatt, Megan has also always taken great care of our house. I feel so grateful to have met Megan. We always know she will take excellent care of Wyatt and our house when we are out of town. I cannot recommend her highly enough.

So glad to have found Megan! We were gone over a week and knew Olive was in good hands. Came home to a happy and healthy pup along with a clean home. She was responsive and gave the perfect amount of check-ins while we were away.

At overnight pet sitting jobs I like to stick to the pets' normal routine as much as possible. If they're at my place for a few nights or for daycare, they'll have my dogs to play with, and I live 1/2 block away from a park.

Information Megan B. would like to know about your pet

*Does your dog have any type of food or bee sting allergies? *Is your dog reactive towards other dogs or cats? *Does anything trigger your dog? Such as skateboards, bikes, sirens, etc. *Ever door dashed or has attempted to door dash? (Not the delivery service, either.. ) *Any possessive type behavior towards people, high value treats, or toys/beds?

A typical day

Sniffy walks! I love being able to let your pup lead the way and take them for a nice long sniffy walk. If they want to sniff one spot for 10 straight minutes? That's totally fine by me. Enrichment is very important. Dogs are smart and want to use that intelligence. Hiding a favorite toy of theirs and having them find it and celebrating them when they do is always fun, or puzzle feeders and wobble kongs are other personal favorites of my pug, Richie.
