Pet care experience
Don’t forget to ask me about in-home NAIL TRIMS! If you’re looking for professional and experienced, look no further. I have dedicated my professional life, as well as my personal life, to working with animals in whatever capacity I could. My experience ranges from farm animals to companion animals to reptiles and more! There is not an animal too big, or too small, for me to care for. I pride myself on the wide range of skills I have acquired over the years. I’ve worked in pet retail stores, veterinary hospitals, doggie daycares, and grooming salons. I spent my childhood living and working on farms in Northern Washington State; and as a teenager, I trained sleddogs. I now proudly call Portland my home and without any dogs of my own (as of September 2021) I am here and dedicated to giving YOUR precious family member the love and care that they deserve. **friendly reminder that this pet sitter uses THEY/THEM pronouns and is non-binary.** Thank you for taking the time to read my profile. My name is Maya Elizabeth (they/them), I’m 29 years old, and I have over ten years of professional experience. In the entirety of my life, I have over twenty years of experience with a wide range of different breeds and species of animals. I recently said goodbye to my husky of thirteen years, and at the beginning of COVID said goodbye to my border collie of fifteen years. I am currently the loving pet parent of four cats and a senegal parrot. Whilst I miss my dogs every day, and my life feels utterly incomplete without them, I am currently dedicated to pouring all my love for them into your precious pup(s). As of December 2021, I currently have a completely open schedule for booking dog walks and drop-ins. If you are looking for boarding or overnight stays, please feel free to contact me and we can talk about it--however, this is not a service I am actively advertising for. I have a Sagittarius moon, so I absolutely love being asked about doing last-minute bookings. Please do not hesitate to reach out very last minute! I prefer to work within a two-mile radius of my house--the closer the better--because I am committed to using my legs, bike, and public transit to get me where ever I need to go. I love when I am able to walk to a clients house and get that extra time outside! RAIN OR SHINE, I WILL BE THERE! ☆ COMPANION ANIMALS IN MY LIFE: Dogs, Cats, Ferrets, Rabbits, Guinea Pigs, Hamsters, Rats, Mice, Frogs, Birds ☆ FARM ANIMALS IVE COEXISTED WITH: Horses, Miniature Horses, Cows, Chickens, Peacocks ☆ ANIMALS I HAVE PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE WITH: Dogs, Cats, Ferrets, Rabbits, Chinchillas, Guinea Pigs, Gerbils, Hamsters, Rats, Mice, Snakes, Chameleons, Geckos, Blue Tongue Skinks, Frogs, Tarantulas, Macaws, Cockatiels, African Parrots, Senegal Parrots, Parakeets, Finches, Horses, Miniature Horses, Cows, Bulls, Alpacas, Llamas, Sheep, Goats, Pigs, Chickens, Roosters, Peacocks, Turkeys, Ducks, Geese, Wallabies, Hawks, and Wolfdogs.
Reviews
We loved getting so many updates and pics of our babies while we were out of town. It’s so hard to leave them, but our minds were at ease knowing they were in Maya’s good hands!
Maya is so communicative! And I love how they took care of my kitty, my kitty even sat on their lap <3
Maya amazing and thoughtful as always 😎
I am so glad that I found Maya. They are kind, reliable, and a great communicator. I am confident that my dogs are safe and happy when they are with them.

I am very kind, cautious, and considerate when I am in clients homes. I go where I am needed, and only in those areas. I take privacy very seriously and take every precaution to respect yours. When necessary, I take my time with animals who need my patience. I am small, soft-spoken, and a soothing energy for your precious pooch. When needed, I am a steady, stern, and strong force. I am capable of giving your pet the ability to trust and bond with me, so you can rest easy knowing your family member is taken care of.
Information Maya Elizabeth H. would like to know about your pet
I really want to know every little detail the owner is willing to share. But important things I would like to know include: How they do when left alone? Do they have separation anxiety? Will they destroy furniture or blankets? Are they fearful in new situations? What works best for them? What kind of basic commands do you use with your dog (as every owner is different)? What is their hopes for their dogs stay with me? What should I make sure to do? And what to avoid? I do not have a breed preference--I love ALL dogs. But I am very equipped to handle all big northern breeds, such as Huskies and Malamutes.
A typical day
Although I pay rent to live in my home, it is really run by my animals. Everything about my home I try to make friendly and fun for the animals I cohabit with. The primary space for animals is upstairs, where I have a room specifically for my Senegal Parrot and the cats. There is also a loft area, or entertainment area, where there is a luxurious sectional sofa that the dogs are welcome on. There is also a tv for late night lounging and hanging out. The loft is blocked off with a gate to give your pooch some privacy from the other animals if needed. The room upstairs can also be gated off, or the door can be closed. Downstairs there is an additional couch, specifically used for animals. Mainly the cats enjoy it, but dogs are welcome to it--though they usually prefer the loft couch! There is an open area through the living room, kitchen, and dining area. There is a closed off / gated area where animal food and litter boxes are kept. This keeps the dogs from not being able to access either. The backyard is a lovely size, with a gated off area that used to be used for ducks. The rest of the yard is completely fenced, at it's shortest point it is about four foot but at the tallest it is at least 6 foot--the fence is mix matched between the neighbours an ours. Part of the yard has stones but it is mostly covered in grass. I live a few blocks from Alberta Park where I frequent with my own dogs. If your dog isn't good off-leash, I prefer to take everyone to Williamette Park which has a five acre fully fenced dog park where we can run and play. Depending on the type of activities your dog is used to, will depend on what we do together. It also depends on what kind of weather we have, as if it is too hot we will not go on pavement and if it is too cold or wet we will stay at the house. (: I like to keep the dogs active and doing things that keep them preoccupied, if that's the kind of dog they are.
