I cannot have my own dog due to my schedule but I greatly enjoy the company of dogs and what I learn from them. Rover allows me to have a dog over my place for relatively short stays that fit my schedule – so is the best of the two worlds. I have taken care of friends’ dogs - while they were travelling or unable to do so - for 13 years. I took care of them in good and less good times and at different ages, from puppy to very old. I enjoyed those experiences a lot and learned so much about dogs, humans, and myself so that I thought I would bring it to the next level and have 4-legged guests over to my place. My area vs dog needs: I live within a 1-mile radius of 4 large parks (Hudson River Greenway, River Bank Park, St. Nicholas Park, Highbridge Park) and 5 dog runs as well as 5 miles of pedestrian-only large paths surrounded by trees on both sides and physically secluded from car traffic. Moreover, the area is residential so the even the sidewalks are very dog friendly: never crowded, large, and low car traffic around them. My apt vs dog needs: I live alone in a large 1 bedroom apt in a small, quiet, and dog-friendly building (6 apartments). The apt has plenty of light, is very quiet (it faces the backyard), and is always very clean. I have zero clutter and lot of space for a special guest (and there would be only one at a time) so she/he can choose the area that fits her/him best. She/he will have toys to play, bed and/or couch to sleep, and whatever is needed for a comfortable stay. Myself vs dog needs: during the dog’s stay, I usually walk her/him every 2 hours and take a long walk (30+ minutes) at least once a day. I am quite playful myself, so usually play quite a bit with dogs. That said, I will adapt to dog's needs as per owner’s suggestions.
