Stay at Home Doggy Mom

Pet care experience

I have owned (or shall I say I am owned by) many dogs and cats throughout my lifetime. Most recently I have become a lover and advocate of the Japanese Chin breed and have three of my own (and adopted two additional foster Chin with special needs. One has a tracheostomy and requires suctioning, trach care, nebuluzer treatments around the clock and numerous medications. Another has Congestive Heart Failure as well as only one eye due to a lens luxation back in 2012. Both were fostered, and later adopted by myself, from a national Japanese Chin Rescue Group...a 501(c)(a) non-profit organization. I am at home most of the time, have a fully-fenced back yard, provide home- cooked meals and lots of fresh water and nutritious treats. All of my babies receive ample daily playtime and have more toys than I can count (you'll see the toy boxes under my profile photos). I have a large, added on family room with ceramic tile, lots of beds and also some doggie-sized couches. This is my fur babies home so yes, they are allowed on the furniture and sleep on my bed at night. I have been a Respiratory Therapist since 1979 so my healthcare background is extremely helpful when caring for pets, especially ones with special needs. I will accommodate most any request for your precious fur baby(s) as I, too, am just as strict on how I want my babies cared for when life requires me to occasionally leave them in another's care.

Mary Clare is a friend but I am also her pet sitter while she’s away. I know what exceptional care she gives her dogs. They are treated like children with much love, pampering and attention. She is a true animal lover and advocate. Her home is a doggy wonderland filled with toys, great food and treats, a big yard to play and run and many comfy beds for lounging. She will go above and beyond to care for your dog, as well as her amazing husband, Mike.

Mary Clare is one of a kind. She rescues Japanese Chins, and rescues healthy ones, and ones with special medical needs. She has the years of medical training to care for them and quite literally save their lives in an emergency situation, and has done so more than a few times with one of her rescues, Mochi, who has a permanent tracheotomy and a few other issues. She is exceptionally loving, as is her Firefighter husband Michael, with all her animal kids. They are her kids, they are not "just dogs" to her or Michael. They are family. I would trust any one of my nine rescues, and 2 with medical issues, with Mary Clare anytime. She's terrific!

Mary Clare has five dogs that are more her children than her pets. She loves dogs no matter if they are big or small, long-haired or short-haired, if they slobber or she'd everywhere...it doesn't matter. She will treat any dog as family.

Information Mary Clare G. would like to know about your pet

I prefer smaller breed dogs only because my pups are small(15 pounds and under) and 2 have special needs and are somewhat fragile.

A typical day

We can walk around the neighborhood on a leash or in a dog stroller. if preferred. We have lots of dog toys, dog couches and beds and a large family room with ceramic tile flooring where my pups hang out with me during the day. All but one of my babies sleep with me in my king-sized bed at night. My home is kept relatively cool in the spring and summer months and warm( but not overly so) in the fall and winter months. I have ceiling fans throughout the house and air purifiers in the rooms that the pups spend most of their time. We always have lots of dog treats on hand and usually only offer them a couple times per day (more often if you so request).
