Pet care experience
Experience: I have 15 years experience caring for dogs. I had a yellow lab named Briscoe from puppyhood, who passed away two years ago. He was a high energy and very naughty puppy, so I know how much exercise, consistent training, and attention young dogs can need. As an elderly dog, he needed many more bathroom trips outside and less exercise, so I know how to adapt to a dog's needs at different life stages. He also needed to take a number of pills, which I learned how to administer using a variety of methods. My sister and her husband have two dogs for whom I dogsit regularly. One is unpredictably aggressive with other dogs and the other is petrified of gunshots/fireworks, so I've learned how to deal with them in difficult/high stress situations and also how to avoid these situations when possible. I've also dog sat for close friends who have two dogs: a boxer mix and corgi mix. Khala (boxer mix) is very shy but she warmed up to me very quickly. Albus is high energy, which I managed with lots of small walks throughout the day. I can walk both dogs at the same time. I understand that people train their pets differently, but regardless, consistency is incredibly important. Let me know your training strategies, and I will use them consistently. I am physically fit, and able to provide vigorous exercise (running) for dogs if needed. I also have the strength (and know plenty of strategies) to handle a large dog who may be a chronic leash puller. I always pick up dog poop on walks! I am currently a PhD student at the University of Connecticut. Because I have to leave every summer to do fieldwork, I can't have a dog of my own. That's why I've joined Rover--so I can spend time with dogs at this stage in my career/education.
Reviews
Mary was awesome! Dozer clearly loved having her there to keep him company while we traveled. She sent pictures and updates frequently. He went on multiple, long walks daily with her. She was awesome, friendly, asked the right questions, and even gave dozer his meds. Dozer has a great weekend and we did too knowing that he was being taken care of!
Mary B has taken care of our two pups (one large boxer/lab mix and one small corgi/jack russell mix) several times and she is our go-to sitter! Mary is extremely reliable and on top of that she loves dogs, so not only is she doing the tasks to take care of them but she's also connecting with them emotionally because she really cares. Having Mary take care of our fur babies gives us so much peace of mind when we're traveling, it's one less thing we have to worry about. We highly, highly recommend her!
My sister Mary has been a dog lover all of her life and is my go-to dog sitter for my two black lab mixes. Mary is dependable and loves my dogs almost as much as I do, so I never have to worry about them when she’s watching them.

I don't mind having dogs in my car to bring them to parks or other places for exercise. I'm an avid runner so can provide vigorous exercise for more high energy dogs.

Availability
My schedule is busy, but flexible, so I can provide walks/pet visits between the hours of 8 to 5 on most weekdays (with enough advance notice). I have a workshift on Sunday 2-7, but otherwise my weekends are available for dogsitting. My Thursdays are completely free, and my Fridays are half days. I'm available all evenings but Sunday and Tuesday. A long term set schedule would be great, although I can be flexible with advance notice. My schedule does change each semester, so that may result in changes in my availability from Fall to Spring. I am generally unavailable in the summer because I am away doing fieldwork.
