Caring pet sitters/walkers seeking pets to love!

Pet care experience

My 9 year old son and I have both grown up with cats and dogs, and bond very quickly with them :) For 10+ years I lived with/cared for dogs, cats, birds, and bunnies. My son and I have been pet-sitters for 2 months for 2 golden retrievers, and have also looked after a sweet Bernese mountain dog for a week. We’ve fostered a cat for a year as well :) I have experience working in a vet clinic, where I helped look after the animals in our care. We adore animals and look forward to having some furry friends around! I’ll be the primary care provider, and will supervise all interactions with my son :)

All went great; I think all the dogs enjoy it here! I was very nervous about leaving our dog as it was the first time, but Martine was cool and had a calm son who took it easy with Siri, who is very stressed and fearful.

Safety, trust & environment

We have a single door leading out of our apartment (into a hallway) which always remains locked. We have a large ventilated bathroom that can be used as a quiet calming space if needed, although we prefer to have the pet around to play/cuddle with (if they’re into that!) We both are very respectful of personal space, and are great at slowly building trust. Our space is organized and uncluttered. House plants can easily be put out of reach if needed, and small toys/magnets are put out of reach as well. I’m very used to baby/toddler-proofing homes as I used to be a nanny and I have a curious child, so pet-proofing comes quite naturally!

Information Martine D. would like to know about your pet

Please let me know of any special needs or behaviours ahead of time, so that we both have the best and most comfortable time possible. Some examples include: excessive panting/snoring, limping/twitches/etc, medication, language understood by the pet (if it’s not English, some basic commands/praises that I can give), signals about needing to pee, signals for fear/discomfort, habits like chewing on furniture/rugs/shoes/etc, comfort level on busses/trains, etc.

A typical day

We’ll go on lots of walks to explore the parks around my neighbourhood and beyond :) There will be lots of birds and rabbits to sniff out. If they are comfortable, we’ll walk down to the beach to dip our feet/paws in and have a dig around in the sand for lost treasure. The dog(s) can smell all the smells the parks/beach have to offer, and we’ll get tired out playing fetch/tug-of-war. When we’re home, we can relax in my quiet apartment and look out the window at the visiting birds.
