I am a certified dog lover. I have been volunteering for local dog rescues since 2003. I have been volunteering for the current rescue based out of Northville since 2008. This is a mixed breed organization so I have experience with many breeds, energy levels, discipline levels and ages. Our last leader dog has been career changed and he is now a permanent member of the family in addition we have another puppy that we are raising for Leader Dogs for the Blind. We have fostered dogs of all sorts in the past. We traditionally fostered puppies so we have a ton of experience with potty training, puppy kisses, puppy silliness and their high energy. In addition, I also understand the needs of senior and disabled dogs. I did hospice for one of the rescues dogs, a German Shepherd, that was suffering from demyelination of the spin (a form of MS). He was not adoptable due to his condition. He spent the last year of his life with my family. We provided all the necessary oral medication and set up our home to assist him with his mobility limitations. When it comes to high energy dogs I believe in the philosophy that a happy dog is a tired dog so walking, running and playing are key strategies while caring for them. Mellow and senior dogs are provided care that best fits their needs. Dogs are family members and are treated with great love and respect in our home.
