Dog Dad with +20 yrs exp for Hire

Pet care experience

I take a balanced playful and patient approach when looking after dogs, and like to tailor my interactions around the dog’s personality. Although many dogs seem playful, often times their behaviors are communicating something else. Some dogs require special looking after, which I feel comfortable and confident in being able to provide as a dog-sitter / dog-walker. Patience can be especially important when caring for older dogs and/or rescued dogs still acclimating to life in doors. My family used to foster german shepherds through a rescue, and I rescued my current dog, so I'm quite familiar with dogs and their anxieties when they’re in transition. Also I have some experience caring for dogs recovering from surgery, and dogs who are blind & deaf.. Currently I work freelance TV production, which can lead to a fair amount of down time in between gigs to pet-sit and walk other people's dogs. I’m very communicating with clients about changes to availability and guarantee advance notice (~1 week) to ensure accommodations can be found for a clients dog if I’m not long available.

Mark was very flexible in picking up and dropping off Havelino. Havelino loved staying with him!

When we first started using Mark as a sitter our dog was a little shy (as he is with all new people) but now when I bring our pup to Mark's house our dog wags his tail and runs right up to him! Mark has been so great about communication and pick up/drop off times and I can tell our dog loves spending time with him as well. I would highly recommend him!

Mark was great with our dog, especially since when we dropped our pup off he was a little nervous and anxious. Mark was very kind and accommodating and I felt at ease knowing he was with our dog. Later, I found that our dog warmed up to him very shortly and was comfortable playing and sleeping around his house. Mark was very easy to work with. Very professional and flexible. I loved seeing the updates of potty breaks and real time photos that Mark shared with us while he was watching our pup. Would recommend and book again!

I have my own dog - a lab/pit mix named Mickey. He is crate trained, but I seldom use it when it’s just him and I at home. He’s very well-behaved at home and won’t get into trouble if I’m out of the house for 4-6 hours. He’s allowed on the couch and in bed with me. That said, I allow this because both pitties and labs are very social pups, who can feel lonely and anxious if they don’t get to sleep with their ‘pack’. If a dog Im sitting is not allowed on the couch, in bed, and/or outside the crate while at home - I will ensure their conditioning is maintained in my home, as well.

Information Mark O. would like to know about your pet

Standard things: - feeding & walking schedule - playfulness - medical needs (if any) - brief owner history (i.e. were they rescued? are they survivors of a troubled upbringing? Are they fearful of men/new people?) - notable quirks / behaviors

A typical day

Depending on the dogs personality and playfulness, I’m happy to bring my own pet for socialization and “pack walks”. Totally enjoy tiring out high energy dogs and spoiling them with attention, if needed. Although I’m weary of dog parks due to the unpredictability of other dogs in the city, I am open to taking dogs im watching to the park if the owner is comfortable with it and the dog does well at them!
