Pet care experience

✘ What I Offer:     ♡ Multi-day & multi-dog discounts (see “What I Charge” below).     ♡ Early retired. Your dog will have constant companionship (24x7).     ♡ Secure backyard (6-foot block fence; padlocked metal gates).     ♡ Treadmill available (if your dog is familiar with one they can burn some energy when it's too hot to walk).     ♡ Experience especially with fearful dogs, as well as puppies, seniors & strong-willed working breeds.     ♡ Dogs from only one household at a time. Your dog will have a peaceful, dedicated environment. (After getting to know a dog, I may see opportunities to overlap stays for more flexibility & availability to repeat clients.).     ♡ A calm, careful environment. Dogs are introduced gradually. Toys/bones are not left on the floor. Play is kept calm and respectful. Dogs are separated during food prep & feeding. Dogs are crated if I can't supervise them (leave the house, etc.). ✘ Why I Board:     I had three dogs over twenty years ('88-'08). I enjoyed training, getting into "clicker" training long before it was popular (and the underlying principles of positive motivation versus old-school compulsion). After my last dog passed away I was reluctant to have another commitment. I began boarding because it seems like a win/win opportunity: I could enjoy dogs — they have a mature, experienced person to care for them full-time. ✘ My Dogs:     After boarding for awhile I began fostering for the county shelter. I fostered Bobbi who was a "project dog" due to fear, lack of confidence. I kept her because she's very good with dogs (Rover dogs helped her come out of her shell more than I did.). She enjoys having dogs stay with her. She's good natured to both large and small.     A year later, I fostered Doc. He was almost feral. After 4 months, I found an adopter for him. But, he had separation anxiety. I took him back with the intention of re-homing him. But, he's really good with dogs too. (I ended up keeping him also.). ✘ What I Charge[*]:     ❏ 1ˢᵗ night: $26     ❏ Nights 2 & 3: $22 ea.     ❏ Nights 4-7: $20     ❏ Nights 8-14: $16     ❏ Additional nights: $14     ✗ Additional Dogs:         ❏ 1ˢᵗ - 40% off         ❏ 2ⁿᵈ - 50% off         ❏ 3ʳᵈ - 60% off [*] I will adjust the price when I receive your request. (I do not accept tips. Please consider donating to a rescue or shelter instead.).

Safety, trust & environment

I have a slow way of introducing dogs which reduces the potential for reactions (compared to abrupt, excited, face-to-face meetings). Dogs are always supervised 100% of the time. If I can't (trip to the store, etc), they're crated. I reward a calm respectful environment (no rough play; toys & chews not laying around. I use a gate to feed guests separately from mine.). If a dog has been here before & I have more relationship with them, I relax that a little (allowing supervised chewing on bones, or some fetch; feeding together). But, I err on the side of - and start very cautious, expecting calm obedient energy first). My dogs have had so many guests & fosters that they know how it works. New dogs pick it up from them.

Information Mark F. would like to know about your pet

☑ I like to see a completed profile for your dog. In addition to the specific information Rover prompts for, in the freeform areas I like to know:     ✎ What you feed, how much, how often?     ✎ Bathroom schedule. Does your dog signal when it needs to go out? (Persistent or subtle?)         ✎ Does your dog know a word to help it go? (Ex. "Hurry up," "Go potty?")     ✎ Crate trained?     ✎ How does your dog interact with dogs?         ✎ Like to play? (A lot, a little?)     ✎ Do you allow your dog onto furniture? The bed? (I do, but will respect your standards.).     ✎ Any separation anxiety you're aware of? ☑ Estimated/approximate dropoff and pickup times? ☑ Do you require a Meet & Greet?

A typical day

They just hang out with me. Lots of trips to the backyard, watching my dogs walk on the treadmill. Lots of napping. ( . )
