Experienced, caring & pet-loving

Pet care experience

My experience with caring for dogs and cats began as a young child when I took an active role in learning how to take care of my family's dog. I realized that taking care of animals requires responsibility, and wanted to take a more active role in helping care for animals while their owners were away. I began working at a boarding facility when I was 14 years old, and spent 3 years learning how to care for and interact with dogs and cats of different breeds with different personalities. I poured my heart and soul into this job, particularly enjoying tender moments with even the shyest of dogs and cats, and soaking up all of the love sent my way. It is through this job that I became comfortable caring for the basic medical needs of cats and dogs including wound care and administering medication (oral, topical, injection). Today, I continue to pet sit for clients that I’ve met through Rover, some of whom I’ve worked with for 7+years. I truly enjoy knowing that I provide dogs and cats with compassionate and responsible care while providing owners with a peace of mind knowing that their pets are being properly cared for in a home setting. During the pandemic, I began volunteering with One Tail at a Time (OTAT) as a foster. My partner and I adopted our second foster who has taught us a great deal about working with shy and reactive dogs. We continue to foster cats through OTAT, fostering 5+ to date. As a true animal lover, I treat all pets that I care for as if they are my own and value spending quality time ensuring that they are comfortable and happy while their owners are away. I can't wait to meet your best fur friend and show them love while you are away.

Marjorie is the best! She’s watched my senior pug-mix several times and always goes above and beyond to care for her. She’s reliable, a great communicator and extremely flexible….all the things you want with a dog care provider. Highly recommend!

Majorie came over for a drop-in visit recently, but we previously met her during our meet-and-greet. Majorie is super warm and friendly and got along really well with our dog Ivy. During the drop-in, Majorie sent some pics and great updates. Though we had to cancel a trip d/t weather issues, we hope she comes to take care of Ivy again soon!

Safety, trust & environment

I do not care for pets at my home, since I have a dog and cat of my own. At your home, I will ensure that I take time to build trust with your pet before attempting any physical contact with them. I know that some animals take time to warm up, and for me its the most rewarding experience when they begin to build trust. Once your pet is warmed up to me, I'll make sure to care for them according to your instructions. On walks with dogs, I ensure that leash, collar, and harness (if using) are all tightly secured. Even if you dogs is dog friendly, I will not allow them to meet other dogs on our walk or take them to the dog park because dogs can act differently without their main companion (you!) with them. If you have other specific request to ensure your dog or cat’s safety I will be sure to follow those instructions.

Information Marjorie K. would like to know about your pet

I am willing to care for any adult dog or any age cat, regardless of any behavioral challenges they might have, what breed they are, or their medical needs. Before booking with me, please provide me with information about anything that is triggering to your pet (ex: petting them in a certain way; certain people; certain animals). Please also share with me your pet's typical routine so I can try to match that routine as best as possible. **Please note that at this time I am not available to care for puppies that are not potty trained. Potty training can be very challenging and often requires a consistent routine that is not always compatible with have a sitter come into your home. This can lead to accidents that are frustrating to both the dog and the sitter. I ask that clients please be transparent about whether their puppy is potty trained before booking with me** **Please also note that my schedule requires me to work during the week and sometimes on weekends. While this can be done at your home (aside from in-person classes on campus), please be transparent with me about your dog’s ability to have someone work from home. Some dogs are reactive to noises from video calls or get frustrated when someone is working and not paying attention to them. This can result in a frustrating situation for both the dog and sitter, so I ask that client be transparent about working from their home with their dog before booking with me**

A typical day

Dogs will enjoy long walks (if appropriate) throughout their neighborhood. If you have a yard, I'm happy to play with your dog outside. I'm also happy to play with your dog inside and shower them with love, attention, and treats!

I am currently a full time doctoral student with several part time jobs, so my schedule is flexible to meet many dog’s potty break and care needs. Depending on my semester schedule, there may be days where I have to travel to UIC’s campus for in-person classes but I will clearly discuss this with clients. Aside from that time, I’ll be available to study and work from your home.
