I was born with dogs. Okay, my parents aren't of the four legged breed, but ever since I was young, I had dogs in my house. I was born with Goldens that my parents showed. There was a professional in the ring with them ,but my dad was the one doing the agility portion. I'd tottle around and pet the dogs, most likely "messing them up" as their mom and dad probably glared at me. Then came Shar Peis, which I found people were afraid of. Apparently they remind people of pit bulls. I remember one time on a walk, we were on one side and the people who were as well, didn't just move out of the way, they moved to the complete other side of the sidewalk. Then, came beagles. Times two. At the time, we never had such food driven pets, and my mom would beg me to take them to work with me (A Daycare facility) so she could eat her food in peace. After they passed, we found we miss (and still do), their constant singing and talking for food. Finally and currently, there are pugs. I got a pug with a former roommate, and when we moved back home for school, I took the pug. The first day, she sat on my bed and growled at my mom for about four hours. My mom thought I brought the devil. Now, they're best friends and another pug, of ... normal temperament... was soon added. As a teenager, my mother would constantly "lend" me out to her friends who were going out of town and needed someone to watch their home and pets. Little did I know she was prepping me for something I'd learn to love. Through my early years animal and pet sitting, I've not only watched dogs, but cats, the occasional bunny and chickens! Yes, chickens. While bunnies and farm animals aren't typical for me, dogs and cats are. During this time, I've found I have a wonderful relationship with animals, that led me to working in doggy day cares and boarding facilities through school, and even beyond! Through their own instinct, animals know I'm one of their "people" and like and trust me. I'm not afraid of them, I want the best for them, and they recognise that. I am available for the pets in my care each second, if need be. I can easily do things with them sitting by my feet, or if they'd prefer- on my lap. They rule the roost-- I'm just there to keep them safe and happy and give them love.
