Animals Have Always Been My First Propriety
Pet care experience
I have always wanted to work with animals. When I was younger I would eagerly watch the show "Super Vets" with Noel Fitzpatrick in, how he treats and cures sick animals, the innovative care and unique surgical techniques. I always seem to spend my whole weekends getting into the show and find it honestly wonderful how one man and his team can work miracles. My love for Science and my desire to know the inside and outs means this is the job for me. I love a good challenge of solving problems and the variety of animals and diseases would keep me constantly fascinated by the work experience and job role. I knew caring for animals was never going to be an easy task to complete, rushing around trying to put your all in to saving them one after another. I have experienced shock and emotional loss with animals. I have a black cat called Daisy which is now 5 years old. At the end of march Daisy was hit by a car and had to go to the out of hours pet hospital in Canterbury, it was a very distressing time for me and my family the first time I actually saw my dad cry. I could very well see all the staff at the vets were trying to keep us positive but at the same time be honest with us about what could happen. It seemed Daisy experienced multiple fractures in the right back leg and surgery was impossible because the breaks were too bad. We knew then that we had to do what was best for Daisy, there were two choices: put her to sleep or to get her leg amputated. With a lot of consideration and talking to family members we decided to get her leg amputated as we felt like we will still give her so much love and affection she was a part of our family. Every animal deserves to live and have a happy life, that's why I feel like I should be on the other end, because of experience of pain I want to support families. I have always had a keen interest in horses and used to ride at a stable, for about 5 to 6 years I spent every weekend and week days after school at the local riding stable in Canterbury, Wincheap. By having to make up feed, I was able to learn everything about the diet of the horses I had to look after. I learnt and delved into how to handle horses safely and correct and studied their basic anatomy. Through assisting with many lessons and leading, I learnt how important it is to communicate with people when working with animals. I have also learnt how different and important it is to communicate with children that have disabilities as my stables work with charities that support this and we learn the approach to communicate with them. In the past I have collected letters about vaccines and common illnesses from a local practice. The letters show the need for good communication between vet and owner of the horses. I have recently visited a animal sanctuary and it was the best experience ever helped out and volunteered.
