I will preface my review by saying I myself have been a Rover sitter since 2014. I have been not as active in the last few years, however. I live in TX and had a family emergency. My mother in law had a short illness and it became apparent she was not going to make it. We had to drop everything we were doing, load our dogs in the car and go. I didn't have time to arrange for a dog sitter. Once we arrived to the area I wanted to find somewhere for one of my dogs to stay since there would be a lot of people around and I thought she would be more comfortable. I contacted a few sitters and booked with Makayla, and I was appreciative she could help on such short notice. I wasn't sure if I just wanted daycare or overnight but I just booked a few nights for overnight anyway. My dog's can be nervous and has separation anxiety sometimes. She is not mean. That being said, I have left her with other sitters in the past and have not had any issues that were reported to me. My dog has that information in her profile and when we dropped her off my husband explained the same and left a crate if needed. I never received any update that day from Makayla on how she was doing. I messaged her later in the day and she said they were still working to get her comfortable. We decided to pick her up at the end of the day and were going to bring her back the next day. I got a text the next day before bringing her back that they were unwilling to let Luna come back due to "no improvement". Then I had trouble getting them to give me her dog food back as they were out of the house until 12am. My mother in law then passed away later that day. So you can imagine the amount of stress I was under. My dog ended up being fine with all the people around where we were at, I should have just done that from the beginning. But in my 8 years of being a Rover sitter myself, I have never done that to anyone, no matter what the dog was like. Like what would have happened if I was out of town and she couldn't handle it? Part of dog sitting is knowing how to deal with all types of dog personalities and behavior. I would say if your dog is super friendly to everything and everyone with 0 issues, you probably won't have a problem leaving them. But if not, look elsewhere.
