I booked makayla to watch my 7 month old chihuahua/dachshund mix for 4 days while out of town. Before agreeing to watch him, we set up a meet and greet for her and my puppy. They got along great and she assured me that boarding him would be no problem. I dropped him off on Thursday, boarded my flight and that night I was being told that I might have to find a new sitter. After being told he wouldn’t relieve himself on the puppy pads, I told her I could have a friend bring over some spray. Makayla said it was no worry. She then texted me saying that she was having trouble getting him to tire out. An issue that’s resolved by walking him for 15-20min seeing as he’s a 15lb toy/small size breed. After she told me this, it was clear she had no previous experience watching dogs. The next morning I was told that my dog would have to be picked up because he didn’t sleep through the night and she received complaints . Not only was I out of town but also am new to Texas and do not know many people. I assumed that Makayla had a basic understanding of how to handle dogs based on her self described love for dogs, I was incorrect. It was clear that she was in over her head and was unable to handle the basics of boarding a dog. Furthermore the inconvenience of having to find another sitter in such a short time frame while out of town showcased a level of unprofessionalism that borderlines on incompetence. Not only would I not recommend Makayla but I would encourage her to reconsider accepting responsibility for anyone’s dog, cat, or fish for that matter. Great communicator and has an awesome personality !
