Not accepting new clients —

Pet care experience

**11/23 - thank you for your interest! At this time, I am not accepting any new clients due to an already full schedule with regular clients. ** Hello! Thank you so much for checking out my profile! My name is Maddie; I am an animal lover with tons of pet experience! I’ve been pet sitting with Rover for over seven years! In that time, I have cared for hundreds of animals from tiny puppies and kittens, to pigs, snakes, frogs, and macaws. I personally share my home with my two dogs, Ellie the 9 year old border collie and Yoshi the Icelandic Sheepdog puppy, and many exotic animals (birds, reptiles, fish, amphibians, rabbits, and invertebrates). I've dedicated my life to providing the best possible care for my own animals and my client’s animals. My weekends and free time are spent dog training and competing with my show dogs, so availability can be limited some weekends when I’m traveling for shows. At home and at work, I live and breathe pets - and I love what I do! At 19, I completed the 4H dog project in Ohio, and earned the highest level of honor at state fair two years in a row; my eldest dog took top junior rally obedience dog In 2018! My dogs are both Advanced Canine Good Citizens (Community Canines). My cat and my late dog were trained and certified therapy animals, and I would frequently take them to nursing homes, schools, and library reading programs. I began volunteering with a non-profit animal rescue in 2012, where I microchipped and vaccinated new incoming pets before they were adopted. With that, I am very comfortable administering injectable medications to pets. In January 2019 I renewed my pet first aid and CPR certification by successfully completing an advanced animal first aid class. Before Rover, I worked in a veterinary hospital as a veterinary assistant as well as a holistic pet food store where I have received the top award in the business for customer service. In addition to my own pets, I was a licensed wildlife rehabilitator in the state of Ohio and worked with injured and orphaned wild animals. I have extensive experience with all sorts of animals and feel comfortable working with all breeds and species. If you have a puppy, I'd love to tell you about how I can help your pup become a more well rounded and fearless dog while I do regular stop ins by early socialization techniques and basic obedience training! I am here for you and your pet for their entire life, pup/kitten to senior; I love them all! I have many senior clients that need a little extra help and I’m perfectly happy to offer them extra TLC and assistance while you’re away. Currently I have many of the same clients that I’ve had since I began Rover here in Michigan in 2018, and I’d love to offer you the same level of dependability and service. My repeat clients become as dear to me as my own animals and I’ll do everything I can to provide top quality care and any assistance you may need throughout your pet’s life. Please let me know if I can provide any more information for you; I look forward to meeting you and your pets!

Pet care is done in your home to minimize stress on your pet. A familiar place and routine will lessen the anxiety that your pet may face when you leave for work or for vacation. Currently I do not offer dog walking services, but I am more than happy to allow your dog out to potty on a leash or let them run around supervised in a fenced in yard.

Information Maddie S. would like to know about your pet

I love all breeds, from itty-bitty pocket pups to your household horses! Before beginning, I'd like to know if your dog has any quirks to look out for and household rules for your dog to uphold (ex. no getting on furniture). If you are working on any training with your dog, I'd like to know how I can replicate your efforts to the best of my ability to keep your dog on the most familiar schedule possible! I am fine working with fearful or skittish animals, but I’m not accepting dogs with territorial/human aggression issues at this time.

A typical day

Each pet is different, meaning each visit is tailored to what YOUR pet wants to do! Some pets will play for the full visit, and others want to snuggle the whole time; both are perfectly fine! Making your pet feel comfortable, happy, and secure while you’re away is my specialty. If you have a skittish kitty, after taking care of their needs I can sit in another room and talk softly for them to a few minutes to let them know someone is there without invading their space and further making them upset. For playful dogs, a full 30 minutes of chasing a ball or frisbee in the back yard or even splashing through a sprinkler tends to be the perfect mid-day activity to wear them out and allow them to have a nice nap until you come home from work. On demand services for last minute plans or emergencies are also available. Have a dog scared of a thunderstorm? Allow me to go over and sit with them, close the blinds, turn on the TV/radio and help distract them from the stress while you’re away.

Availability

I am available Monday through Friday morning to evening, though I do have daily repeat clients that secure time slots on a reoccurring basis. Currently I am showing my dogs many weekends, and I do my best to keep my availability on my calendar as accurate and up to date as possible. If I am not available, I’d be happy to connect you with one of my Rover partners that can help you while I’m away!
