My family has rescued dogs all my life and well before. I was raised with a great rspect for animals and became a vegetarian at age 12. My first doggie was Snickers; a beagle who had been dumped at the shelter for being a bad hunting dog. He was emaciated and terrifed due to severe abuse. He went on to live to the ripe age of 15 when a heart condition ended his time on earth with me. I have a memorial tattoo of him on my arm. My parents continue to rescue animals though I now have my own, Blue. He's a handful as he is very high energy and suffers from separation anxiety as well as thunderstorm panick but he's a giant, sweet, goofy Momma's boy. He enjoys long walks in the park, trail blazing with me and Dad, swimming, and sleeping in the middle of all the bed pillows.
