Active and energetic animal lover!

Pet care experience

I am always looking for a new long dog to befriend my greyhound, Benny who I’ve been socialising since his adoption. I am very flexible as I'm a student nurse hoping to pack in plenty of walks and cuddles around my studies. I specialise in training and socialising sighthounds. I currently foster retired racing greyhounds and hate coursers for Scottish Greyhound Sanctuary. I am comfortable practicing your dogs’ training while they’re with me. Let me know the “vocab” and commands they’re working on and I’ll help you to stay consistent. I live in close proximity to the water of Leith, Leith Links, Portobello and Arthur's Seat, as well as having a large, fenced (shared) garden to play off-lead and take comfort breaks in.

Louise made a lot of effort to make sure our anxious dog settled and sent us regular updates! She has a great enclosed outdoor space and was very flexible, helping us out last minute at a busy time.

What a wonderful day the two dogs had with Louise in Edinburgh. She immediately put all of us at ease-including the humans - and the dogs had non stop fun of walks and cuddles and play. It was great to get lots of photos and updates too. Louise was brilliant and I would not hesitate ate to recommend her or to use her again next time I’m in Edinburgh. Thank you Louise, from Margot, willow and their humans!😊

Louise is a star! Very patient with me and my dog's nonsense and kept me up to date during the stay. I will be definitely coming back to Louise on a regular basis for all my doggy needs!

Louise was such a wonderful sitter!! She kept me updated every day with pictures and videos of my pup and he was absolutely spoiled with treats, long walks, and even a trip to the beach. I can’t recommend her enough!

I have a fenced garden for zoomies and comfort breaks. The shore, Water of Leith, cycle path to Lochend Park and Leith Links are less than 5 mins away for longer walks to burn off all that energy! In your home I’m happy to follow your pup’s routine and continue any training you’re working on together. As I have my own dog, Benny, we can meet first for a brief sniff and walk around the block just to make sure they’ll be friendly. However, Benny’s a gentle giant and enjoys the company of other dogs. He may have a brief sniff and forget they exist for a day or two. Benny is a gentle boy who’s devoted to his humans. He grew up with exclusively with greyhounds so doesn’t know what to make of how other breeds play. He can be defensive of his female friends if he sees them playing rough (off lead), but he’s really all bounce, bark and no bite. He’ll politely have a nose boop and sniff of friendly dogs and puppies- large or small. If a dog noises him up, he removes himself and gives me a pointed look because he’s knows I’ll step in. He likes to walk quietly along behind me and honestly, I could forget he’s there when I’m walking my client’s dogs! If pushed, he’ll snap at an overly rude dog in the park, or chase them off. In much the same way his Mum would have done with him and his sisters in the litter when they played too roughly. I never force him to socialise in dog parks as this is an invitation for introducing him to untrained, off-lead dogs. I would also never take someone else’s dog to an enclosed area with several strangers’ dogs. I set my services to “Away” when there is a reactive or nervous foster in my household, so you’ll never have to worry about that.

Information Louise A. would like to know about your pet

Let me know if your dog has any special requirements or behaviours you’re currently working through. If your dog is reactive with other dogs, this is something I need to know so I can organise Benny to have a day with his grandma without unsettling him or your pup.

A typical day

Leith Links and Portobello beach are practically on my doorstep so if your pup just needs to stretch their legs for an hour or so, I’m more than happy to facilitate.

A typical day runs like this: Benny’s breakfast, teeth (bc stinky) then comfort break in the garden. 20-30 min walk with a zoomie (if he feels like it). Nap. Indoor/garden playtime and training. I’m currently working on extending his “stay”, stopping mid-run, pooping on demand, walking downstairs, “place”, “out” (of the kitchen), desensitising to buses, the nail file and bathing, and we ALWAYS practice and treat recall (important for an ex courser). Nap. At 13:00 Benny has a longer beach, forest or hill-walk and a small meal, usually from a Kong, lick or snuffle-mat. Nap. Dinner is at 5:30 followed by a comfort break or wee walk to the green. Benny gets a treat (rabbit ear, banana or dentastix), in his bed while I eat dinner. Nap. Then he gets plenty cuddles on the couch before a bedtime plod to the toilet followed by teeth brushing. Then I fight with him to get off my bed… a fight I happily lose because he’s just a cuddly oaf. When I’m at work, university or on placement (or looking after a nervous dog), Benny stays with my Mum and Dad where he’s lavished with attention and kitchen scraps.
