Safety, trust & environment

With a persistent attention to detail, I frequently look out for when an animal is trying to communicate a need, such as them wanting water, to play, to eat, to be pet, etc. I always ensure they have fresh, clean water and that they are fed the appropriate amount and on time. I also like to spend quality time with them giving them belly rubs and and behind-the-ear scratches. I also look out for their safety by keeping things that might be dangerous out of reach as well as checking in on them frequently to make sure they are doing well :)

A typical day

A typical day consists of wishing them good morning, a nice walk (before it gets too hot, during the summer), breakfast, and the freedom for them to nap/play while i work from home. Then I am available for any other walks they may need until it’s time for the afternoon/evening walk before dinner. I usually like to give them an enrichment activity/toy during the day or some time after dinner, before taking them out one last time before bed time.

Loving pet care with Lorenço

Pet care experience

I believe animals are always communicating with us, and I approach pet care by listening first and responding with patience and care. I have 12 years of experience with my own dog and have worked through reactivity, anxiety, fear of noises, and leash pulling using positive reinforcement. I have worked with multiple trainers over the years and have spent a lot of time learning about dog behaviour and psychology, which has shaped how I care for animals today. I pay close attention to body language and subtle cues like freezing, yawning, or disengaging. When a dog seems overwhelmed, I focus on helping them feel safe and settled by creating space, choosing calmer routes or environments, or redirecting them toward something grounding. With shy or nervous dogs, I always let them approach on their own terms and give them the freedom to take breaks or step away when needed. I also believe in balancing physical and mental stimulation. Along with fulfilling walks, I enjoy incorporating enrichment like sniffing games, confidence-building activities, and gentle training. These activities work well for high-energy dogs and can also help more nervous or shy dogs feel comfortable and confident. I have experience caring for large and small dogs, puppies, and senior dogs, as well as administering medication including pills, liquids, topical treatments, and ear drops. I am very comfortable following vet instructions and care routines, and I tend to be very organized and attentive to detail. Above all, I genuinely care about each animal’s wellbeing and individuality. I use patience, positive reinforcement, and observation as the foundation of my care, and I always do my best to make sure every pet feels safe, understood, and cared for.

Lorenço took amazing care of my dog and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. They were reliable, communicative, and clearly have a genuine love for animals. My fur baby got lots of walks, playtime, and attention, and I received regular updates (with photos! 🐶) that made me feel completely at ease. My dog is usually standoffish but it was obvious that he was comfortable and happy with Lorenço (which is saying A LOT). I would absolutely book with Lorenço again and highly recommend them to anyone looking for a trustworthy, attentive, and caring pet sitter.
