PhD Student to Love Your Fur Babies

Pet care experience

Everyone on this site loves dogs, but few probably have clients who call them "the dog whisperer" because of how immediately and intensely their pups bonded to them! This is the only time since I was a kid that I haven't had a dog - and as soon as I finish my dissertation, I plan to adopt one again. In the meantime, I am happy to love yours as if they were mine. A little about my background in working with dogs: I worked at an animal hospital in the Chicago area for two years as an undergrad, so I'm comfortable administering most medications, and keeping an eye out for troublesome symptoms. Later, I moved to Washington DC to begin a master's program, and there I began dog-sitting and cultivating a discerning clientele. I also spent 6 months fostering an emotionally-shattered dog that had been saved from a Thai meat factory. I recently moved to Albany to begin a PhD program in criminal justice, and I already miss the intermittent canine companionship I enjoyed over the past few years! As a student that attends the downtown SUNY campus, I'm able to work from home 4 days a week and have a very flexible schedule, so I can provide long walks and runs to those pups that are high-energy. Plus, my department allows us to bring our dogs in while we work - so if that is of interest to you, just let me know! I'm one of those people who truly just delights in a dog's company, so I'm also happy to spend several hours on the floor playing (throwing toys, tug-of-war, wrestling, or just speaking to them softly while giving them gentle belly rubs). Few things make me happier than making dogs happy. In addition to being experienced with high-anxiety dogs, I am very experienced with "wallflower" types, resource-guarding dogs, tri-pawds, and senior dogs of all sizes and shapes. I have a large, one-bedroom apartment and live alone on the second floor (there is one flight of stairs). I'm available to help out during any and all holidays, and I would love to be your dog's or dogs' home away from home!

Loralys was awesome! We contacted her with less than 48 hours notice for house sitting services and she was more than accommodating, even finding time to make a separate meet&greet trip. She showed up early and sent photos and videos, which really comforted us because we knew they were happy to hang out.

We love Loralys, and so do our fur babies. She is so kind, dependable and conscientious and goes the extra mile to take such excellent care of our Dusty and Jordan. She is reliable and communicative, which I appreciate so much.

Loralys did an excellent job looking after the fur babies! She did everything I wanted and more, including cuddling them, and treating them as if they were her own. She communicated often and clearly including videos, which put my mind at ease. Great job!

Information Loralys M. would like to know about your pet

I love all dog breeds - including the ones that are erroneously labeled "dangerous"! I just need to know ahead of time if there are any guarding behaviors (food, toys), any issues with strangers approaching us on the street (particularly children), any house rules I'd need to enforce (e.g. you don't want him/her allowed up on furniture), or any tricks you've been working on that you need us to keep practicing!

A typical day

I live right next to Washington Park, and I love to take dogs for long, meandering walks there, particularly at dawn and twilight. I have a car and I love hiking, so I also enjoy driving to the Catskills and Adirondacks for a full day on the trails.
