I love dogs more kids lol. I have two myself and they are my world. I understand the need to love them and take care of them. I would walk them once at night to get their energy out and then once in the morning so they would be tired throughout the day. Play with them and cuddle with them as they need to be so they feel like you are there. I love all types and sizes.
