Dogs love coming to Auntie Linda's

Pet care experience

(Formerly Kamp Kelley) I have been fostering small dogs for a rescue group in No. VA. for the last 9 years (my aching back doesn’t allow me to work with dogs larger than 20 lbs)--prior to that I fostered cats and kittens. I has experience with many types of small dogs—especially Shih Tzu’s and Llasa Apso’s, but also Yorkshire Terriers, Basset Hounds, Pom's, Toy Poodles, etc. My expertise is in rescuing and caring for senior and special need dogs. Since I have a dog-friendly house and a large-fenced yard (1/4 acre) for them to run and play in, I decided to become a dog-sitter 5 years ago. I believe in loving and treating your fur-baby like my own! We keep her home and yard dog proof so your little angel will be in a safe, relaxed, dog-friendly, and loving environment! Because I am retired, my schedule is very flexible.

Linda is the perfect sitter for our Lola, who needs lap time and to be able to sleep on the bed. And she made a new friend!!

Because of his background before we adopted him at age 10 or so, our dog Tyson is not a lover of humanity. Things sometimes get tricky when people get too close to him. A Chihuahua/mini-Pinscher mix, he can get frightened by people and lash out. Not so at all with Linda. From the moment we dropped him off at her house to the time we picked him up, he showed no signs of anxiety, fear or aggression. He went about the house sniffing things out, jumped on the sofa like an old friend and was well-behaved when we left him in her care. When we picked him up, he showed no signs of anxiety at all and seemed at ease with Linda. When we arrived, he was scouting out the enclosed front yard and seemed quite happy. We want to thank Linda for taking good care of him, obviously with great patience and she’ll be the person we’ll go back to when we need to travel again. Linda is caring, calm and she loves animals, that’s totally clear. Thanks once again, Linda!

Information Linda K. would like to know about your pet

Please let me know if your dog has any special needs or unusual so that I can be prepared for that. Tell me a little bit about their personalities. I think it's important for the dog, in particular, to do a Meet & Greet to introduce him (her) to the smells of the house and to introduce everybody me.

A typical day

I treat the dogs that I dog-sit for much like my foster dogs. I want them to feel loved, safe and protected as well as stimulated and exercised. As examples of enrichment, I hide green beans under and between two pieces of card board with a couple of holes in them, (you'd be surprised how many dogs love green beans) play ball with them inside and out and give them Kong's (usually filled with a little dry food, peanut butter and green beans). If your dog is used to sleeping with you, they sleep with me. If not--not. If they need medication, I give them their medicine (within reason--if multiple problems, a small extra fee is charged).
