Caring for animals my whole life!
Pet care experience
My family has always had pets. And my parents made sure we were responsible for them. Dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, fish, lizards, horses .... you name it. I was in 4-H growing up and trained my dogs in obedience, which led to showing dogs in AKC shows. As an adult, I have had pets and taught my son how to care for them as well. In addition, we volunteered at the Pottawattamie County Animal Shelter for several years before it closed. It was always interesting to see how new dogs would react to us as we learned to care for them. But the people in my family seem to have a way with animals.
Reviews
I had the pleasure of volunteering with Leslie at the Pottawattamie County Animal Shelter for several years. She was truly dedicated to walking and caring for the dogs. She was extremely active in adoption events, and even adopted from the shelter when she and her son fell in love with Carter and made him part of their family. She continues to share her love for animals through Rover. Thank you, Leslie!

Safety, trust & environment
My son went to college this fall and now it is just me and my boxer, Carter. He does well with medium and large sized dogs - I'm not sure how he would do with the teeny-tiny dogs. He does not like cats, so I would not be able to have a cat in my house, but I could do drop-ins for cats. My house and yard are great for dogs. The back storm door has a large size doggie door in it and when I'm home I leave the main door open so my dog can come and go at will. I have a huge fenced in yard that is a hill with terraces. My dog does a lot of jumping off terraces and running up and down the hill. Most of the fence is at least 6 feet high, but there is a portion that is a 4' high chain link. So if you have a jumper, we might not be the best fit.

Information Leslie W. would like to know about your pet
I prefer dogs 20 pounds and over. And I love big dogs. I would like to know if a dog has any aggressive tendencies.
A typical day
I have a big back yard where dogs can run and play. We also go for car rides and walks. Lake Manawa state park is one of our favorite places to go.

I work full time during the week (M-F, 8-5) but often go home for lunch to let my dog out. My weekends are usually uneventful - if I have something to do I'm usually gone no more than a couple of hours. And when I do go somewhere, I often take my dog with me.
