I grew up in a home filled with the love of AKC English Setters. I had 3 sweet Cocker Spaniels quite a number of years ago and eventually had rescue standard dachshunds and 2 rescue whippets for many years - all part of a tightly knit multi breed family. I eventually adopted my 1st greyhound from the Humane Society and one month later found myself at a Greyhound Adoption Group to adopt a 2nd. It is often said that greyhounds are like potato chips - you cannot have just one. Therein began a 25+ year devotion to the rescue of senior and special needs greyhounds giving forever homes to those who were so often overlooked. In 2015 I was introduced to the Spanish Galgos who are actually a cousin to the greyhound. I had been contacted by an owner needing to relocate to Germany and his 10 year old female Galgo was too elderly to make the trip. She was located in Florida and after meeting her there wasn't a doubt in my mind that she belonged with me. As this breed is accustomed to life with the company of their own breed I adopted a 3 year old female while she was located in Spain and she was flown to the US via an adoption group to join the family. In 2018 I adopted a male Galgo who had been long overlooked at the rescue in Spain and he is now a very happy member of the family. People have always asked why I choose to give forever homes to the seniors, special needs and those who are passed over for many reasons. I have always believed that it is quality of life not quantity of life that matters. There are many who are anxious to adopt puppies and beautiful young dogs...my heart has always gone out to those who no one wants to give a home to. I am a canine nutrition consultant as well and I firmly believe that all animals, like people, will benefit from proper nutrition based on their age, size and activity levels. My dogs are my life and I feel that the relationship between pets and "their people" have the capacity to enhance the lives of each other.
