Putting your Fur Children First

Pet care experience

I am a dedicated and loving dog owner who knows first hand how important your dog is to your life. Since a child, I have had a dog in my life and was blessed to bring my own dog in my life nearly 20 years ago. My family currently has two beautiful and friendly adopted rescue dogs who love to play: Sadie Sue, and Panda. A min-pin mix and a lab mix. Before children I was a regular volunteer at the local shelter getting to know dogs and working hard to adopt them into a caring family. I am the first to volunteer to any friends, family, or coworkers who need a dog sitter and love every minute of it. If given the opportunity, I promise to treat your fury family member as my own and will shower him or her with love. Please feel free to message me anytime with any questions you may have and I will be happy to promptly respond.

So let me start out by saying Leigh is great with dogs and I would recommend her to anyone looking for a sitter. BUT my most recent stay for my baby Sandy didn’t go well at all. It started out that on May 15th I dropped off my baby girl to Leigh and Leigh was wonderful enough to help take Sandy to be spayed the next morning in Escondido. She took Sandy after the spay to her house for a few days to start the healing process where she was to be kept calm. Leigh was given a cone to put on Sandy but it wasn’t worn due to Leigh always being home and able to watch Sandy all day. I picked up Sandy on that Tuesday but decided to drop her off on Wednesday since I had to be at work all week and couldn’t watch her. On Saturday 5/23, I got a text from Leigh saying she thought Sandy’s spay site looked infected and I should come by to see it. So I did and was happy she had noticed something wrong. It had the clear signs of a infection where the stitches where torn out. I called the place where Sandy went for her spay originally and Leigh took my baby to have vets see it and put glue on the site. I wasn’t thrilled Sandy got a infection but was fine with having it get checked out and fixed so Sandy could start to heal again. The vets where really not happy Sandy was brought back and let Leigh know this infection could lead to a hematoma-which is a much bigger vet bill and Sandy needed her cone on 24/7. So Leigh brought Sandy back to her house-that I thought was only Sandy and Leigh’s two dogs that Sandy knows, and her family to heal with. So I was fine with her healing in the environment Sandy has grown up in and knows so well since she was 10 weeks old. Sandy knows Panda, Leigh’s Dog, and he is very mellow and gentle with her, so I knew she’s be ok with him. That night, Leigh and I talked for quite some time and she told me she felt it was on her that Sandy had to go back for the infection. She told me how stern and serious the vets where with her about the cone being on at all times and how dangerous the infection could be. She told me she hadn’t had a healing from spay/neuter puppy since Panda was a puppy himself and got neutered so this was a like a new experience for her. I was fine with that and entrusted my baby fully with Leigh. She had watched Sandy since I first got her at 10 weeks old. She knows what to do and I didn’t have anything to worry about. On May 26, I went to pick up my baby. When I walked in, Sandy laid down for belly rubs and gave me a very quick glimpse of her spay site, which looked fairly dirty, so I couldn’t really see it. I agreed with Leigh that the spay site looked “ok” even though it looked dirty, but I thought I had seen some white stuff in there, yet again. Sandy got up before I could check and I asked Leigh where Sandy’s favorite piggy was, before I forgot her favorite toy to take home. She walked into the living room and Sandy followed after. I walked a little ways in because Leigh thought it was outside and I noticed at least five dogs outside when she went outside. I couldn’t believe it! Why where there five dogs here with my puppy who I thought was the ONLY one Leigh was watching? I didn’t say anything but was very upset as I watched her look for and Sandy’s piggy toy and hand it to me. Before I could ask for Leigh to help me recheck the stitches, another dog owner rang the bell. I put Sandy on her leash and stood waiting as Leigh got the other dog to it’s owner. At this point, I was really upset and wanted to wait for Leigh to be done with the other person so I could have her help me recheck my puppy. Instead, it felt like I was being asked to leave as Leigh held the door for me. As she said bye to the other person, I loaded my puppy into the car and went back to get the easy walk harness, which Leigh thought I had already grabbed. I never got the chance to talk to her because I felt very rushed. So I left her house, still stunned by seeing all the dogs and pretty mad. I had thought my puppy was supposed to be the only dog there so she could heal. I NEVER would have left her had I known she was going to have other dogs there. So I checked Sandy right when I got home and sure enough, the spay site was opened again and infected. I quickly made a appointment and took her the next day to get two new stitches AGAIN. The next morning when I asked Leigh if Sandy had been around the other dogs, she said yes she had been but only to go potty and she tried to keep her from playing. I told Leigh Sandy had to be taken to be stitched up because it had opened AGAIN. After putting a lot of thought into it, I called Leigh the next morning 5/28 to tell Leigh I was really upset that she had the dogs in the backyard and I felt it would be the right thing to do if she payed for the THIRD vet bill. She immediately got really defensive and said she did the best she could to keep Sandy from playing and she had no idea I wouldn’t want Sandy around other dogs. I told her I thought we where on the same page after she took Sandy to the vets that Sandy needs to stay calm and not play and run around-per the vet. I asked Leigh why she had five dogs there and she told me it was a last minute job. So it was too last minute that you couldn’t call me and ask if I wanted my playful puppy who was supposed to be healing and staying calm if I wanted her to stay there with five other dogs? I would NEVER have been okay with that and really thought after Leigh had talked to the vets who got after her about the infection, that Leigh knew that. I would NEVER have let Sandy be in that situation. Why wasn’t I called or texted?? Leigh told me Sandy had to go outside with the other dogs to go potty and when she would want to play she was immediately stopped from playing by Leigh. I asked why didn’t you just put her on a leash and take her out front? I was told she hadn’t thought about that and she apologized for making that mistake. She was mad and said she wouldn’t cover the full $92 of the SECOND spay fix and would only give me $45 of it. She told me it was also my fault it opened again because I didn’t make it clear that I didn’t want Sandy around other dogs. Why do I have to tell someone to keep my HEALING FROM A SURGERY puppy away from a bunch of other dogs?? Is it not obvious after a vet tells you to keep her calm that that would NOT be okay? Why wasn’t I informed that Leigh decided to take on five dogs for a last minute petsitting job knowing my puppy needs to heal and be kept mellow from playing?? Why not just say you can’t do the job because you are watching a bunch of dogs while she needs to heal? Why not crate her in another room to keep her away from the others? I was asked by Leigh why that’s any different than her playing with her own dog, Panda. Panda is mellow with Sandy and is a very good dog about letting Sandy do whatever she wants to him without being too rough with her. I was perfectly fine with Leigh’s dog allowing Sandy to try to play and him not playing too rough. I don’t know the other five dogs and obviously that’s WAY too much energy for a healing from a spay puppy who would want to play with the dogs when near them. I am a Petsitter myself, and I don’t understand why I was not called and informed of these other dogs. I would never do this to my customers who need a dog to heal from surgery. I would have been in contact with the owner immediately if I had to take in dogs for another job while taking care of a surgery patient to see if they could get the dog or how to handle the situation, regardless of it being last minute or weeks in advance. I would have said “no I can’t watch the dog, I have other clients I took on.” I feel this whole situation was handled very wrong and poorly. It could easily have been completely avoided all together. I feel hurt that my full trust in Leigh with my baby girl was taken advantage of. Sandy loves Leigh and her family and I know Leigh’s kids are going to be really really sad when they are told Sandy won’t be coming back due to this incident, if even told at all. I’m sorry to Sandy mainly, who will never be able to see her second family again. Again, this could all have been easily avoided.

Leigh was terrific with our dogs. She really went above and beyond to make them as comfortable as possible. She was very kind and compassionate with their anxiety, as they are rarely boarded. She gave us a lot of reassurance that they were in good hands! Highly recommend her! We are thankful to her, and her kind family, who give their boarded dogs lots of TLC!!
