Pet care experience
First of all, thank you for your consideration! I pet sit full-time, so my husband and I appreciate your support! About Me: Like many pet-sitters on Rover, I am an animal lover through and through, but I also have decades of experience to back up my passion for pet care. I have over 23 years of personal experience and 17 years of professional experience caring for animals other than my own, and after seeing and working with all types of temperaments and breeds at their best and at their worst, I am more than equipped to care for your pet as well! Since I was 13, I volunteered at a local no-kill animal shelter in Connecticut and worked there through the rest of high school and part of college. My undergraduate minor was in Animal Science (Pre-Veterinary studies) and I went to veterinary school pursuing my DVM doctoral degree for two years in Alabama prior to moving to St Petersburg, FL to be with my husband. I had a 12 ish-year-old Coonhound/Lab mix named Sally who I rescued while I was a veterinary student in Alabama. Before Sally, I had a Coonhound/Doberman mix named Abby for 12 years and a Persian/Himalayan mix cat named Fluffy for 18 years. All three pets have been the loves of my life and are what inspired me to work with animals inside and outside of a veterinary or animal shelter setting.
Reviews
Leaya is an amazing pet sitter. She goes above and beyond to make sure everything is taken care of while you are away. She even left Christmas gifts for our cats! We will definitely use her the next time we need a sitter.
Leaya is the best! Always our go to sitter for our best girl.
Leaya is extremely sweet and took amazing care of my three pups! I will use her again and again!
Leaya is so good at what she does. My cats love her and she takes very good care of them for me whenever I am away. I am so glad that I can trust in her to care for my fur babies.

I primarily do drop-ins visits in the clients home and don’t offer services in my own home since I live in an apartment. I ensure that each of my clients fully fills out the Rover profile for each pet, as well as making sure there are written instructions with pertinent information, along with vaccination history. My goal is to ensure that your pet is taken care of like you would take care of your pet yourself. I do my best to stick to their schedule as much as possible. For added security in addition to the Rover guarantee and the background check, I’m also insured.
Information Leaya G. would like to know about your pet
I require scheduling a meet and greet prior to the start of a visit for everyone, where I can learn if your pet has any aggression towards new people, food/ toys (resource guarding), or other pets (like if we encountered other dogs on walks). In addition to vaccination history documents provided, I would also like to know if they have pre-existing health or behavioral conditions that I should be aware of such as allergies, medications and supplements they take (if any), how they behave in the car (if applicable), and/or favorite toys/ treats, etc. It also serves as an opportunity for you to ask me any questions you may have too. I have worked with and care for pets of all ages, sizes, breeds, and species. Some of my top goals are to ensure long-term client retention, have regularly scheduled clients, and have open communication, so I do my best to make sure we are a good fit from the beginning. And if I feel that we are not a good fit after a meet and greet or booking, I will also be honest and let you know. Honesty is important and I want you to feel comfortable just as much as your pets.
A typical day
My question to you is- what does your pet like to do on a typical day? Play in the yard, go swimming, snuggle on the couch? All of the above? If your dog wants to, I like to play games inside and outside of the home. If your pets body language allows me to get on their level to earn trust, I try to do so in the meet and greet and throughout the visits. I try to ensure they’re having fun and are mentally stimulated as appropriate for their age, activity level, breed, demeanor, etc. I get so much joy out of playing and snuggling with pets and will do everything I can to make our time together entertaining! But I also respect that some pets don’t want a lot of attention, and gauge appropriately through the information you give me in the meet and greet. I always ask my clients what their dogs favorite toys are, and where they enjoy walking. I can bring dog puzzles, go to local dog beaches, and local dog hot-spots downtown if the owner requests them. I do not take brachiocephalic (short snout breeds like Frenchies, bulldogs, pugs, etc) in extensive heat or for long walks due to their breathing restrictions as it’s in your pups best interest. I wouldn't bring your pet anywhere without permission (unless it's an emergency vet and I can't get ahold of you or the emergency contact you leave me).

Availability
**Important: My 1st visit starts at 8am and my last visit starts at 8:00pm. I will not accept bookings outside of those hours. Sundays I am not available until 2pm. I require a minimum of 2 drop ins per day for dogs and at least 1 drop every other day for cats if they will be in my care for more than 48 hours. No exceptions as this is in your pets best wellness interest, as well as for safety and liability reasons. **
