I love ALL pets as I do my own.

Pet care experience

I've have always had pets-dogs & cats-all my life-growing up & also as an adult. For the last 20 years I've been pet sitting for friends, family, & clients. I frequently get new clients which allows expansion of my business as well as my experience of different breeds, increasing my knowledge range. I am very happy to meet any pet(s), when I'm being considered as a sitter, and it's ideal to meet the pets l might watch so they get to know & like me and we can get acquainted and comfortable together. I'm flexible with my clients and their animals needs, and would be more then happy to work with you and your beloved animal. I love cats, dogs and all Animals really hold a special place in my heart. I have had bookings with 1 or more cats, dogs or both in different families. I like to, if possible, meet them in advance, but not required, so they get a chance to become familiar with my scent, and voice, so we can begin with a positive & friendly interaction & chemistry.

Lea was a wonderful sitter for Talia while we were away. She sent photos each day and shared stories about their time together. Talia was happy when we returned and the house was in great shape. We highly recommend her!!

Information Lea P. would like to know about your pet

Here is a list of things I find helpful during visits, so both your pet and I make the most of our time together, learn a trick or 2, and most importantly, stay safe & have lots of fun. How does your pet handle other people, especially children? Do they tend to bark or jump on strangers? Is you dog comfortable being pet by unfamiliar people? Are they open to being approached by unfamiliar people or on the shy/nervous side? Are they friendly with other animals, mainly other dogs out on walks, or do they prefer their space? Do they bite or have ever broken skin? Is there anything that sets them off, such as rabbits, mailmen or firetrucks? Are they house trained? Is there any special place your animal is trained to do their business? About how much does your pet weigh? Do they walk well on a leash or pull a lot? Are you okay with me giving your doggie treats (Puperoni or milk bone)? Does your pet have any allergies or medical conditions I should be aware of so that I can safely plan our activities. I don't have a preference with breeds, because I love ALL animals. Does your pet know any directions or hand signals, like sit or stay? If not, is it OK for me to try and teach them some? Because my pets & clients safety is of the UTMOST importance to me, when I walk any dog I have them sit or pause before crossing a road, so they learn to stop and look for cars. I take great love and pride in what I do, because I truly do love each pet I sit as if it were my own. I like to spoil them with attention, love, treats, and playing a bit. When you come to pick up your beloved pet from Lea, I want your pet to feel like THEY went on a little vacation, and have a memorable "holiday" in my care! My aim is that they're excited when they come hang out with me again, and you're at ease knowing that you're pets enjoying their time too!

A typical day

I like to take my clients dogs for walks, and sometimes run and frolic with them. I always keep them on leash though to ensure walking goes well. I always ask if the pets socially comfortable interacting with new people, kids, and other animals, so I'm prepared for any encounters. Sometimes I take them to trails off the main road for longer walks, or extended running and playing fetch. I try to use a track not on a main road, so passing cars are not a distraction or concern. An area I like to take some bigger or more active dogs or puppies is an open grassy field, where there's more room to run and play and I run along side them with leash in hand. There I like to let my dogs get in more time for fun, playing and exercise. We play fetch with a tennis ball, Frisby, or stick, in the large field with doggies I sit for, and often I run with them in a large grassy field, if they have the extender leash (if not I stand in the middle and spin as I let them run laps back and forth around me). I make sure that they get plenty of water before the walk, and some after too. I also like to spend time sitting on the floor, petting them, and giving them attention, affection and snuggle if the individual dog wants to. I love to give them hugs, and massage their ears and under their collar, or scratch their belly if/when they roll over. Depending upon the owners instruction, I like to give treats, and try to teach basic direction like "sit", "stay", "shake" etc. I also show them the hand signs for each to help them learn faster. On training walks, I use my mouth to make clicking sounds for instructions. Ideally, I like to get my dogs in the habit of sitting pausing and looking around before stepping off any sidewalk on a walk, but those learned practices take some time to get ingrained in the pet.
