Dog Mom Day Care and Sleepovers!

Pet care experience

Hi There! My name is Lauren Van Schoyck and I most certainly know more dogs than people! I've had extensive experience working with dogs, including about 6 years at dog day care facilities, over 15 years in private services (pet sitting, dog walks, etc.), and over 6 years running my own doggy day care and boarding from home, as well as raising and training 4 puppies of my own. I have managed dog groups at other facilities that numbered up to 55! However, I do a couple things very differently from the boarding facilities I used to work for (including group sizes no bigger than 6). The dogs that stay with me are never just a number, this is genuinely a home away from home for them. They get to play like at a day care, but get detailed individualized care that average boarding/day care facilities lack. At the end of the day, they don’t go into a kennel or crate, they come into my room to sleep by me, either in my bed or one of my many other nice doggie beds. I always make sure the dogs that stay with me eat, no matter what techniques I have to employ (with parents permission of course). I have taken multiple dogs that need regular medication administration or special temperament/physical challenges that I help to work with them on. There is always plenty of human affection to go around between my husband and I! I promise you that every dog I care for I love as dearly as my own pups, and your furry family member will be no exception! You will get many pictures and detailed reports everyday about your dog’s appetite, their activity level, how they are sleeping, who their best dog buddies are, and what they are up to! In fact, everyday I send 10-20 pictures and the average amount of detailed text updates is about 4 messages. With all these updates and photos I send, the goal is that you never have to wonder or be worried about your fur baby. I’m home 24/7 (except for a few doctors appointments here and there) and I live with my husband who also adores dogs. I have a very close pack with my 3 pups, so before I can have any dogs stay for boarding or day care I do meet and greets in my large fenced in backyard. This way they can get to know my dogs in an unleashed, safe environment! If your dog is new to Dog Mom Day Care and you’d like to do a stay longer than a weekend for your first boarding, I require at least one trial one night boarding stay before I can determine if I can take them for a long period of time. This is so they can really get to know my dogs and me as well! They can get used to my home and I can make sure the constant pack environment doesn’t overstimulate them. If at any point in the process I sense the dog isn’t a good fit, doesn’t like it here, or is uncomfortable with some of the dogs here etc. I won’t be able to take them for the long boarding. This process may seem like overkill, but it is the best way to keep your fur baby happy and comfortable! I have a few large crates that your dogs are welcome to use if crate trained, or if you time them out for discipline reasons in a crate (which I do for my dogs, but only do with client’s dogs if instructed) I love dogs more than anything, and I would be honored if you’d like me to care for your baby! Can’t wait to hear from you :) PS I’m taking a hiatus of sorts after the loss of my beloved German shepherd to a rare disease that took her away from us at only 5 years old, so I apologize that I am currently being unresponsive to new clients. As someone who is home 24/7 to care for my pups, pet care doesn’t need to fit into my routine, it is my routine! Your dog will always be with me for supervision and so that I can shower them with love and attention at all times! Regarding my safety protocols they are simple; I have a fenced in back yard with a 6 foot fence, but regardless of that I am always right there with them wherever they go, just in case! My constant presence can deter/stop escape artists or any other unwanted behavior, and ensure any particularly curious pups stick by me and avoid trouble!!

Lauren is always our first choice when needing someone to watch our sweet dog. We know with confidence that Zoey will get lots of pets and be cared for like family at Lauren’s.

Lauren and Josh are great with my senior Lab Sprocket. He really seems to enjoy his time with her and the buds that he meets when he gets to stay with them. This last trip was longer than usual, but once again he acted perfectly normal when we picked him up.

Safety, trust & environment

I care for pets in my home with the most detailed attention and sincere love. Your fur babies are loved in the same exact way that I love the 3 dogs that I own: there is no difference for me. If/When your dog stays with me, I do everything in my power to make the environment they are in not a kennel or regular day care: but a true home away from home for them, where they can be happy and enriched! As I am home 24/7 they have constant supervision, constant love and pets, and are constantly stimulated with fun things to do!! I get new toys every two weeks, and take them out every half hour to an hour out into my very large yard! While we are out in the yard (which we tend to be at least 1/2 of the day if not longer!!) depending on your pup’s personality, they can explore the yard and/or play ball/toy time with me if they are more shy or prefer to do things on their own. Or if they are dog social, they can happily play with my little pack of dogs or other dogs I may have over at the time. I also screen every dog through a vigorous meet and greet process before they are allowed to stay here, so everyone is safe and happy and having a blast!

Information Lauren G. would like to know about your pet

I would like to know how much socialization your dog has received, and how often they are in a pack environment (aka dog day cares, dog park, friend’s houses with dogs, etc.) I would also like to know any and all behavioral problems they have, if they’ve ever been in a confrontation with a dog, or if there is a size, energy level, age, or look of a dog that makes them uncomfortable. Because my 3 dogs are in the 45-70lb range, dogs upwards of 45-70 lbs or even heavier (I’ve had dogs up To 120 lbs!!!) are the best fit for my home! But if your smaller dogs currently weighing 25-40 lbs enjoy the company of larger dogs, I’ll always give a meet and greet a try!! I can also take large-medium dog breed puppies and have done so many times before with great success! My concern with dogs smaller than 40lbs is always simply that a group of big dogs playing with a high level of energy may accidentally overwhelm the smaller pups! They chase and run and sometimes bump into each other clumsily, so I don’t want the small babies to get too jostled under my care!

A typical day

When your pup stays with me, they really are entering a true hybrid home/day care environment! This means I am home 24/7 to supervise the "pack", and they get their wiggles out with running round my large yard and playing with others, as opposed to going on outings and walks. But I guarantee they will still be plenty tuckered out! My 4 month old German shepherd Belle and my golden retriever young man Junior have been known to tire out even the most wild of puppies! Once all dogs are sufficiently exhausted from play, we normally all cuddle together on the couch or I'll get on the floor with them while they nap and give many belly rubs, head scratches, cuddles and pets. Then the cycle often starts again! While the dogs play, they are learning, too! I am able to foster appropriate pack behavior and play, and have helped a few crazy pups to learn some doggy manners and how to better control their play. I am an expert on “doggie politics”, body language, dispositions, and pack dynamics. While the pups play, I work on recall, sit, and eye contact so they have a bit of training while having tons of fun!I also happen to have easily 20 toys in my house/yard (and am always getting more!) that the dogs love to play with. The backyard has a little deck with outdoor beds where the dogs love to sun bathe, and an extensive grassy area with a ton of room to romp around, play fetch, and play with other dogs!
