Experienced, Flexible and Fun!

Pet care experience

When you can't be at home with your beloved furry friend, I'm here to provide you with the next best option. I am EXPERIENCED. I have routinely cared for pets for over 20 years. This includes dogs, cats and birds, some with special needs requiring administration of medication (tablets, capsules, pills, liquids via syringe and injectables) and prescribed diets. I am FLEXIBLE. My schedule is flexible. I am a freelance writer and also own my own business, a boutique fitness studio. This allows me to make my own schedule, a schedule that can coincide with your needs! I am ACTIVE, ADVENTUROUS and FUN. Some of my hobbies include hiking, running, walking, swimming and more. Do any of these appeal to your dog? Let's make a date! I am TRUSTWORTHY. Throughout my adult life I have demonstrated and maintained a high level of trustworthiness. I spent more than 10 years working in the healthcare technology industry where I had access to protected health information as a part of my daily responsibilities. I followed all rules and regulations to insure the proper handling of this private and sensitive data. Further, I mentored students in the Pittsburgh City Schools for five years, an activity that required obtaining all applicable child abuse clearances. I am also bonded from my time working at a bank while in college. I can't imagine life without the love and companionship of a pet. Currently, I am the proud pet parent of a cat named Dotty. Dotty has been a very spoiled fur-covered only child for 13 years now. To say the least, she's very set in her ways. The addition of another pet would not be met with her approval. I have so much more pet love to offer! I see Rover as the perfect way to continue to provide Dotty with her comfortable lifestyle while I make some new furry friends.

Information Lauren B. would like to know about your pet

No breed preference! I would like a better understanding of the following: *Any standard words, phrases or hand signals to command the dog. *How to address bad behavior. *How to reward good behavior. *Any allergies. *Expected behavior on a leash. *Favorite toys, games. *Preferred method for cleaning up any accidents - cleaners to be used, chemicals to be avoided. *Preferred area of yard for going to the bathroom, should waste be picked up, where should it be disposed. *Any triggers that can cause extreme stress or bad behavior. *Any notable behaviors or actions that convey hunger, needing to go to the bathroom, etc. *Certain parts of the house that are off limits to the dog. *Feeding schedule, food amount provided. *Any regular grooming needed. *If more than one dog, any territorial/rank concerns, ie. feed one dog before the other. *Preferred way to handle a medical emergency. *Back up emergency contact if pet parent cannot be reached.

A typical day

For walks, I am a big fan of Riverview Park on the North Side of Pittsburgh. There are paved road routes as well as hiking trails in the woods. North Park and the Montour Trail also provide great options for dog walking. I appreciate that some dogs are most comfortable walking in their own neighborhood - this can provide a sense of familiarity and limit time riding in the car if that is a stressor for the dog. Besides walks, a visit to a dog park or agility park or swimming facility could be fun. Note, I would only feel comfortable engaging in these additional activities if the dog has an established history of participation and the pet parent is completely comfortable with the dog attending in their absence.
