About Geronimo

Geronimo is a sweetheart with a giant head and big eyes that will make you fall in love right away. My fiancé and I adopted him from One Tail at a Time in January, and he's just the best thing in our lives. He's very treat/food motivated, which is great for training! . Tug-of-war is literally his favorite thing on earth, and he will play until your arms fall off and then want to play more. He's also developed an affinity for chase/keep-away, especially if you've got a table or something he can run around in a circle. He loves stuffed animals and squeaky toys and is a fierce squeaker-killer. He's potty trained, only chews his toys, and isn't a counter-surfer or garbage digger *at all.* He doesn't need to be crated or even confined to one room when left alone. Even if you leave him alone in a room with unattended food, he won't touch it. He will definitely look at you with big, irresistible, sad eyes and sniff in the general direction of your food in the hopes that you'll share though. Geronimo LOVES people. Making new friends is one of his favorite things, and he loves coming along when we visit friends & family. This guy can come to a party with 20 people in a room and be happy, chill, and well behaved all night long. He is reactive to other dogs, especially when he's stressed/amped up so absolutely no dog parks/cafes/etc., and avoid dogs on walks, but he can be redirected on walks, and we're working on it constantly. We'll walk you through what we typically do on walks and the best ways to redirect him. He gets *really* excited and happy when meeting new people/visiting a new place or when he thinks he’s about to go for a car ride, so typically the first time meeting him, he's a bundle of happy energy and struggles to listen to commands because he's just too excited, but he settles down pretty quickly. He's such a good boy with really good manners. <3 He's also incredibly smart. We use clicker training with him, and he typically picks up new tricks/commands within a day or two. He knows a fair amount of commands including sit, stay, lay down, come, shake/paw, eyes (make eye contact), go to bed, and more. We've started working on some super basic nosework type things. Try holding a treat in one hand and putting both hands, closed fists facing down, out to him and ask him "Which one?" He should sniff it out and put his paw on the hand with the treat. we've also done the shell game with him. :) He's out of practice right now though, so the results could vary. He could really use some more challenges training-wise to keep his brain active, so if you have any experience with clicker training and have tricks or commands you'd like to work with him on, he'd love it (just please don't teach "speak"). He's also a big fan of hide and seek, which is good for mental stimulation too. Basically, he's just the the best dog ever. He's a HUGE snuggler, and his snuggles are magical. He's so full of love, and it's almost TOO much wonderful. :) PS. He's got an instagram too - certifiedgeronimo) :)
