Experienced Pet Care Technician
Pet care experience
Since 2003 I've been caring for dogs and cats in two well-established area boarding kennels. I've also cared for rats, rabbits, ferrets, mice, hamsters, guinea pigs, birds, and frogs. While I love working with pets, I also understand that it takes more than just love to give the best possible care! It's important to have an eye for the details and get to know each pet individually, follow a client's instructions exactly, and know any important details to watch for as far as health concerns or behavior quirks. I understand that your pet is family and I want to give them the best possible care while you're away! I am currently a member of the Rose City Working Dog Association and training my first IPO dog, Ivan. (2014-present) Animal Caretaker and Rehabilitation Assistant at Oswego Animal Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation My current role as a Rehab Tech involves guiding dogs through underwater treadmill sessions and individualized physical therapy exercises. We see dogs recovering from orthopedic surgeries as well as geriatric dogs that need to maintain strength, flexibility and balance. I truly love the work I do! It's great to teach dogs how to have fun doing these challenging exercises, and see their strength and confidence increase as a result! (2005 until 2014) Kennel Technician and then Manager at Laurel Acres Kennels Laurel Acres Kennels taught me so much not only about pet care, but also customer service and how to listen to a pet owner's concerns and expectations. I did a little bit of everything at Laurel Acres, from cleaning dog runs and scooping litter boxes, to dog walks and introducing dogs to play groups, to feeding, administering medications, and even giving insulin injections. This has prepared me to work with any dog: big or small, puppy or geriatric, exuberant & friendly or shy & skittish. I really enjoy getting to know the pets and all their different personalities! (2003 until 2005) Kennel Technician at Cooper Mountain Kennels This was my first animal care job, and it gave me a great introduction to working with dogs and cats. Cleanliness and record keeping were always emphasized at Cooper Mountain, and I met some wonderful pets during my time here! Why I love dog sitting I have always loved animals but I got my first dog, a German Shepherd (mix?) from an animal shelter in 2002 and since then my life has pretty much revolved around dogs. I began working in boarding kennels in 2003 and since then I've met so many cool dogs of different breeds and personalities. My household includes a German Shepherd currently in training for IPO sport and 2 cats. My experience administering medication Yes, of all types. I can also do insulin injections.
Reviews
When I was about 8 months pregnant I was doing a lot of lounging around and my dogs were suffering. Feeling pretty guilty; I hired Laura. Best decision ever! My crazy active pups got to go hiking and running while I worked and then rested my swollen ankles. It really gave me peace of mind to know I could rest after work and my dogs were happy and tired too. I loved getting pictures of big smiling faces during their hikes. Thanks Laura!
