Dogs need vacations too!
Pet care experience
Only twice in my life have I lived without a dog under the same roof, and it felt like something important was missing. It was. Dogs will always play a big role in my life! I work from home, which allows me to pay attention to canine guests as well as my own dogs pretty much all day as needed. The whole pack hangs out in my home office while I have web conferences, write various pieces, and so forth. (If only I could teach them to do the filing!) Palm Springs airport is roughly a 5 minute drive from here, making it really convenient when you're on your way in or out of town. I have a nice yard -- "desert landscaping" which means no grass. There's an awesome pool for dogs who like to swim! A couple walks each day gives them access to green spaces. I often spend time at the dog park and, with your permission, would love to have your dog come too. For those who like to sleep in their own "den," I have a big kennel available. There's a doggie door allowing access to outside and vice-versa whenever the dogs like. Even dogs who are unfamiliar tend to get the hang of it pretty quickly. 8-ft stucco walls around most of the yard and gates have been reinforced to keep the wanderers contained. Experience had taught me that one-night stays are stressful for new dogs, so I only accept them for dogs who’ve been here before or in cases where the owner has a true personal emergency. Short notice is usually OK. I always encourage a "meet and greet" before a new dog's first overnight to make sure everybody's comfortable -- both canines and humans. Don't absolutely require it, though, because I trust the judgment of their owners. I know how to give dogs their meds (one of mine gets a weekly allergy shot), but don't have formal training. I have taken a pet CPR course, but have thankfully never had to use that skill. The veterinarian that Rover uses in emergencies (VCA) is a mile or so away from my house should any medical issues arise -- something else I have never had to deal with during my years with Rover and Dog Vacay (its predecessor). I'm happy to send pictures and updates as well to those who would like them. Some people really like them, while others would rather just focus on their trip. I discourage one-night stays for the first time we meet. It's just too short a time for a dog to adjust to new surroundings. Hope to see you and your canine buddy soon.
Reviews
We felt confident in leaving our aging Cavalier King Charles spaniel with Larry for about nine days while we were out of the country. It was clear upon pickup that Brandy had enjoyed a good time with him at his home. We highly recommend Larry and are glad we booked early to ensure we could fit into his schedule during the busier holiday season.
Larry is great !! I relocated a year ago to the desert and finding a responsible and personable pet sitter was super important to me. The thought of her being boarded in a kennel was not going to work for me. I highly recommend Larry to anybody that wants their furry baby left in good hands.
Our dogs were very well taken care of by Larry.
Larry was very professional, had great communication when I messaged him and took great care of my girls. I loved that he also has setters, so knows the breed and their quirkiness. I would board with him again.

The usual questions are around diet, sleeping arrangements, exercise, etc. The key to a happy guest dog is trying to replicate their home routine as much as possible. It's pretty rare to have a guest dog who has any significant aggression issues (except minor things like toy/food guarding, etc.) , but knowing this ahead of time is important. I can deal with aggression -- just need to know a detailed history.
