Aloha! I love dogs and grew up with pit bulls. Dusty was so smart, we think he thought he was human. He would sleep on his back, with his head on a pillow, tucked under the blankets. Dusty would open the screen door on his own, and when he was hungry he would say "mum mum" to get your attention. The best was when we came home and after his excitement, he would sit on the floor, we would lean in to give him a hug, and he would put weight back on our shoulder like he was hugging us back! He sadly passed away after only 5 years, but my memories of him are forever! Unfortunately, I have not been able to have a furry friend of my own due to my apartment's restrictions on pets (and my husband is allergic). But that doesn't stop me from enjoying dogs and puppies of all shapes and sizes. My mother has a black pomeranian, Kuromame (which means black bean in japanese), who I call my "little brother." I love how if he hears my car approaching, and my mom says my name, he will run to the door and do a happy-dance where he stands on his two hind legs to greet me. He then will turn over and want me to rub his belly immediately. And then we end up playing fetch for an hour because he has limitless energy. I also have a 70-pound Boxador nephew named Makana, who is my sister's baby. He's a giant, but the biggest teddy bear as he always leans on you as a way of constantly giving you a hug. I don't get to see them that often because they both are in Colorado, but I enjoy sending care packages to them from Hawaii. Makana is so funny, over the years he's received so many packages, that he knows when he sees one that there will be a treat inside for him. He will especially know something is for him if it's wrapped in tissue paper. Makana will then tear into it, and retrieve his new treat or toy within seconds. Christmas time is his favorite! Skype and Facetime have made it possible for me to enjoy these special moments with my sister and nephew. To be honest, sometimes I also like to go to the Humane Society to visit the dogs there just to have some "puppy time." There is just something about their unconditional love that just melts me every single time. Which is why I think I will be the perfect "auntie" for your furry family member. He or she will be spoiled by their "favorite auntie" in no time! Mahalo, Laney
