We have taken care of medium and large dogs, and my boys and I really enjoy the chance to interact with the different dog personalities. Dog walking is our favorite--we live close to the Murdock Canal trail, and we like to take dogs out on the trails there. We took care of a Labrador/Shar Pei mix dog, and we took him on some great walks with us as a family. My boys also played fetch for a long time with him in our back yard. One of my sons (age 9) wants to be a veterinarian, and he especially loves being able to spend time with dogs that we dog sit. I feel like it is very helpful for my boys to get to know a variety of different dog breeds and feel comfortable caring for them. We also have 3 cats, and we are huge cat fans! We enjoy playing with cats and snuggling with cats.
