Pawsitive Dog Training & TLC

Pet care experience

*WILL RESPOND W/IN 24 HRS* I'm Kristina! I'm 24 years old and I've recently moved to CO after studying at the University of Miami as marine science/biochem pre-vet. I’ve always had a passion for animals, from copepods to horses--and I’m currently getting my hours to become a professionally certified dog trainer. Throughout my time in university, I befriended live-in faculty so I could watch their dogs, I've watched animals for friends--often teaching a couple some fun tricks along the way, and I've also worked with UPUP; a student organization that partners with Canine Companions for Independence (CCI) to train service dogs. I received my training certification with CCI through the organization, although I unfortunately had to leave as a result of pursuing some on-campus student programming work. However, I'd say the most impactful experience I've had working with dogs was my time volunteering at Born Free Animal Shelter in Homestead, FL. A lot of the dogs that show up there are older, special needs, and aren't socialized. I learned how to break up dog fights, as well as how the socialization process works and changes for every dog, and I'm so grateful for the experience working with every kind of dog you could imagine. Despite that, my husband and I found ourselves what's essentially our first child, Kid Zeus! Zeus is a 1 year German Shepherd puppy with just as much mischief and sass as his father. We've raised him from 8 weeks, and seeing how well behaved Zeus is has made me so confident that I can continue to work with dogs and pursue that passion. He knows the basics, but we like to mix things up and teach him new things to stimulate his brain. Currently, we're mastering off leash training with him, as well as getting him to play dead when I pull out my finger guns and go "bang!" If that sounds like something you want for your dog, I'd love to work with you! Like I've said before, I have a place in my heart for all animals, and I really want to communicate with you to make sure everything's clear and you can be 100% confident in me when it comes to your furry companions. I have 42 acres and two very playful pups to give your best friend lots of play and socialization. Likewise, we can communicate to plan some training, as well! Details on services: We have quite the full house, so out of safety and respect for animals in our house, as well as potential clients, boarding and daycare services are currently suspended. Dog Walks: Likely to go over 30 minutes, will cater to your dog’s energy level and make sure they get the most out of their walk with me and can take a nice nap when they get home. We could also book a longer walk and discuss a fun adventure for your pup outdoors. Let me know if you want me to do some walk training with your dog during the service, and I’ll gladly work with them on heeling, loose leash walking, and waiting.

Kristina has been great to find for Olive! She is insightful, kind, reliable and we feel great knowing she’s keeping Olive safe and learning while we are away!

Kristina was helpful beyond words! As a sitter, she was quick to respond, arrived on time, provided updates, and kept little Olive safe. But then she went above and beyond and was an incredibly valuable trainer! She wrote a whole report on Olive's behaviors and tips for training her in a manner she will do best with. We will 100% use her again and would recommend her to anyone! She deserves so much more than the rate she charges

Kristina was the best sitter I could have asked for my pup. First of all she was very quick to respond when I contacted her, it was very late and very last minute but she was still happy to do it. I got constant updates about Hunter while he was staying with her, including pictures and videos. Hunter seemed to have so much fun with her and her dog Zeus that I actually felt a bit bad for him when I had to go pick him up. Extremely happy with how she took care of my pup.

Safety, trust & environment

My care approach depends on the animal, but all of them have an underlying priority of respect and patience for the animal. If they prefer their space and you just don’t want them to be alone, then we can chill on opposite ends of the couch. If you need a lap to snuggle on, I’ll bring a blanket for us! My approach depends entirely on the animal’s personal needs.

Information Kristina A. would like to know about your pet

I'd like to know feeding schedules, what training you guys do with the dog, and what the average day looks like for your pup! If there's any special needs/concerns, I want to know, and if you feel like it's important I want to know about it!

A typical day

Depending on the size/energy level of the dog, we may go on a longer walk or to the dog park (if it's okay with their owner). I like to play 'hide and seek' with Zeus, which is something I may train your dog to play with me as well (I throw the toy and hide when they run to fetch it, and when they find me I throw a party and praise). Anything that will stimulate their mind and wear them out that I can make fun for the animal, essentially. I get that every dog is different. If your dog is staying with me, I’ll give them time on their own as well as with my dogs so they can have the best of both worlds.

First thing in the morning I like to handle basic needs; breakfast, litter/potty breaks, and maybe some puzzles/mental stimulation. I like to get exercise out of the way early, although when it gets cold out I’ll often wait for peak sun. I like to check on my animals every couple hours after I’ve worn them out for potty breaks and seeing whatever needs they have. Meals are usually pretty strictly scheduled and structured for mine, personally, however I like to follow the owner’s lead when it comes to their pets.
